I want to know more about dentistry. Please recommend books/journals that will help me understand the challenges that dentistry faces and things like that.

no book is going to tell you whether or not dentistry is for you.. the best way to really see if it's something you want to do is to shadow a dentist
not really, you can do both. books are good. read more books.
