First Aid for Psychiatry
Appelton and Lange Question book

I used First Aid too. I found it useful and easy to read.

Has anyone used casefiles?

another vote for A & L question book

i also used nms psychiatry and liked it a lot. it's not as long and detailed as the other nms books.

anyone had any luck w/ high yield psychiatry? i haven't had this rotation yet but i've heard that this book is where its at....any thoughts?

All I used was blueprints and did fine.

Just took the exam today. Exam wasn't that bad. I have to make a recommendation. Learn UCV Psychiatry. Its a quick read (5 hours) and knowing these classic cases will atleast get you a pass. Test was very straightforward, no tricks. Review the UCV book, Kaplan Step 2 CK section on pscyh to know what to expect. I also read HY psych in the last 1.5 weeks (like 10 pgs a day). It was a very easy read but leaves you feeling little prepared. In summary, this was one of the easiests shelfs to date. Once again, check out the UCV book -- they ask the same classic cases over and over again on theses shelfs. I didn't use it for peds but I'm sure it would have helped a ton.

I found the First Aid for the Psychiatry Clerkship book to be the most useful resource for me for both the wards and for the shelf exam (scored in the 90's). For question I used Pretest Psychiatry and Appleton/Lange (shared with the other students on my rotation). I also used FA for the Wards psychiatry section and FA step 2 psych section.

The green Current Clinical Strategies pocket book was helpful for learning DSM criteria. I bought the book, but I think you can get a free PDA version from the publisher's website.
