What can I do for Pharmacy experience?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Check if your school's student career center offers student-only internships or volunteer at a nearby military pharmacy.

The first thing you need to do is to get certified. Schedule a test throughthe PTCB website ( http://www.ptcb.org ),giving yourself a couple of weeks to acquire a study guide. You can buy a PTCB certification study guide from Amazon or Ebay (or whatever... maybe even SDN classifieds), study it for about a week, then go take and pass the test. The test isn't "Rocket-Surgery," so, if you apply yourself, it shouldn't be difficult. Conveniently, the test is usually administered at the same testing facility as is the PCAT. While you are waiting for your PTCB study guide to be delivered, look into licensing requirements for your state. GA, unlike TX, requires a license. Requirements vary by state. This website might help determine your state-specific requirements to get a license: ( http://www.nhanow.com/pharmacy-technician/requirements.aspx). Acquiring a license may be the most time consuming step in this process (it takes a little more than a month in GA), so it's best to "get the jump" on this, if possible. Once you've taken and passed the PTCB and, if necessary, submitted your license application, start "carpet-bombing" your town with pharmacy technician job applications. Pick up a phonebook, or use the google machine to look up pharmacies in your town, and submit an application to every single one (hospitals, retail, whatever). Many retail chain pharmacies even offer centralized online applications that broadcast to all their stores in the region. With the right amount of effort, you could land a job (pharmacy experience-extraordinaire) in little more than a month. Make it happen. You can do it.

Yeah I'm trying to volunteer by all the local hospitals said there are no volunteers in the pharmacy.

That's weird. I did an international internship overseas in the pharmacy dept. at a local hospital.
