I am wondering if I am limited to only FM in rural areas at this point? I did my best on the COMLEX and don’t think I could’ve done anything better. I’ve been a weak student in class but I’m going to try to do better for level 2.

IM
Peds
FM

I would say that a lot of programs aren't extremely score dependent and are going to look for personalities. However a 443 isn't a convincing score to tell me you'll pass your level or step 3 or have a poor grasp of pathophysiology. Aim for a solid level 2 and you'll have a better shot at the above specialties and possible some more.

I'll go and say that with a 440 + average level 2 you can probably interview at a good number of community programs in IM and a few university programs in FM in non-coastal states or major cities. You'll have decent amounts of metro programs, but chances are you'll have to be less choosey.

I disagree with the highlighted. A 443 maybe scored 3-5% less overall than average. And while it may be 1 SD below average its not that significant of a difference. Now compared to someone who scores 600+, sure, I would expect a significant difference there in knowledge. As far as passing future boards, especially as most students improve on their level 2 due to its clinical base, I would expect OP to do better and don't see a reason to be concerned about them passing.

Otherwise I agree with the comment and that IM is generally open with community programs.

Can neurology be added to the mix? Maybe because I am in the MD world, I feel like applicants with no red flags can match into neuro even with very low board scores.

With a broad app yeah it might be possible. I don’t really know anything about neuro though so that’s just me spitballing lol

If you show an active interest for sure. That being said uncompetitive neuro programs usually want you to do prelim year somewhere of your own accord. The prelim may be more competitive. And you may end up soaping a random TRI as a prelim or failing to hit it.

I think the difference between an average score and a 600 is closer than an average score and a 440. As far as things go comlex scores have never been studied and correlated with board pass rates. Usmle scores have. And in my book a 440 is either a failing step 1 or barely passing.

for whats it worth i got a 428 comlex 1 and a 243 step 1... i also had a 37 mcat... idk i think the comlex just fkn sucks

Did you already go through the match? If not, would you be at an advantage for your high step score? Due to the merger?

For antidotes I scored a 412 on comlex 1 last year and about 460 on step 2. Failed usmle step 1. I ended up with 13 interviews last year for FM/IM and matched into my top 3.... not a rural location

How many programs you applied to?

Did you disclose the failed step 1?

Bro. Why lie? Your post history literally says you had to scramble.

Thats AOA match which happened a month before ACGME.

I’m gonna roll the dice that someone who couldn’t get any of the 362757 open aoa FM and IM spots in the scramble didn’t then match acgme at the top of his rol a month later

Well...it is possible that they weren't successful in the AOA scramble since they were still waiting on their PE scores, then got PE scores after this process, updated the however many/few ACGME programs they interviewed at (since it's not a requirement to have PE/CS to interview for most) and ended up matching.

Id psych pretty much out of reach at this point?

I would like to know this too. Psych out?
Last year 64 DOs applied with scores between 401 and 450. 40 matched. So it's not totally out of reach, but you better have a few impressive things on your app that give programs a reason to interview you. I'd strongly recommend a backup specialty too. Im, fm, peds, or path.

I would consider taking step 1 and crushing it. I know that might seem like a hurdle, but if you can pull it up, I think you’re good.
