what can i learn as a medical assistant?

Hey everyone! I was just accepted to an MD program to start in the fall of 2013. I have been working for about a month in a family practice community health center as a medical assistant. I was wondering if anyone who is further along in their career could give me some advice on how I can optimize this experience to learn as much as possible in a clinical setting, where I can learn hands on. I have a lot of free time and I do spend it having fun but I figure I should take advantage of what I'm doing to help make school even a bit easier. For example, I made a list of the most commonly prescribed drugs, which I think will help me in school but it also has been helping a ton at work. Any other suggestions? What about any books that I could read to help?

If you have free time you need to LEARN HOW TO CODE the office visits. Know how to do as much of the paperwork as possible, referrals, EMR, scripts, and office coding and billing. It will only help you and they don't always teach you what you need to know in medical school and residency. IT will make more sense when you get to that portion, too.
