Hi all,
I've taken the kaplan diagnostic just recently and received a score of AA 21/PA 20 (Mostly 19 and some 18...but got boosted up to 21 because of 25 in QR)

I will be studying my butt off for the next month and half till I take my DAT in mid Aug. I currently taking the kaplan DAT course and will utilize all the material possible.

I've heard many different opinions regarding Kalplan, however. Some say that their AA portion is a pretty accurate representation of the actual DAT, while others have said that Kaplan are pretty useless.

Assuming that Kaplan diagnostic is easier than the actual DAT, will I be able to pull off my diagnostic score on the actualy DAT if I study my butt off for the next month and half?

If I got 19-20 on the DAT, given my stat, will I be able to get accepted anywhere? I've applied to 20+ schools.

Thank you so much!

I don't think anyone can really answer this question, but in my experience (which is the best I can do), on average I scored 2 lower on my actual AA DAT than on Kaplan practice exams. So, if I scored a 22 on Kaplan, I scored a 20 on the DAT. I do think that their PAT section is pretty fair, and their QR section too. They were pretty true to the actual test for me. Good luck.

If you haven't started studying yet and you're pulling those scores you're in pretty darn good shape. Look over past threads in the recommended study materials...good luck!

Thanks, but this is actually my 2nd time taking the course (2nd time is free) so I did study a little in the past, just not nearly as hardcore as I am right now. The material was easier for me because as a 4th year about to graduate, I have taken a lot of upperdivision science courses which are all related to DAT.

I understand that there are a lot of other materials avaialbe, (destroyer, Topscore etc) but do you guys think kaplan alone is good enough? They actually have a lot of extra quizzes/workshops online that comes with the course as opposed to the bluebook, so I was wondering if I should go out and buy other supp. materials.

Thanks!

I thought the second time was only free if you didnt improve your official dat score after taking the course the first time.

It's higher score + satisfaction gurantee so if you still unprepared/unsatisfied after the 1st time, you may take it again free as long as you have done all required work.

From the Kaplan website:

"No matter how many points you improve, if you're not satisfied with your overall score, you can study with us again for free for the next test date or for 3 more months for computer-based tests."

So i guess if u waited over 3 months before re-enrolling in the course then you have to pay for it, right? If u took the DAT and told them u were not satisfied with your score then you would have no more than 3 months from the day you took the DAT to use the Kaplan course again for free......?

The more detailed version:

"**You must be enrolled in a Kaplan full classroom, tutoring, or online course that began on or after August 11, 2003, and attend all required classes or make-up sessions, complete all required tests, and complete all of your required homework as outlined on your student homepage. If you feel that you are not ready to take the exam or are not satisfied with your score on the actual exam, you may repeat the full course for free for classroom and online students, and complete the full classroom course for free plus purchase additional tutoring hours at $35/hour for tutoring students. Your free repeat course must prepare you for a test date within the next 3 months, or the next available test date. If your total score is not higher on the actual exam than your earlier, official test score or your Kaplan diagnostic (if you did not take the actual test before), you may repeat the full program for free or get a full refund. To invoke the Higher Score Guarantee, you must notify Kaplan within 90 days after the date your course access ends. To be eligible for the refund, you must present a copy of your official score report, your diagnostic score results, and your course materials at the time you invoke the guarantee. The Higher Score Guarantee only applies to Kaplan courses taken and completed within the United States, Puerto Rico, Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, and France. Courses completed in Puerto Rico do not qualify if they began before June 15, 2006."

Dont these 2 seem to conflict with one another:

1) "You must be enrolled in a Kaplan full classroom, tutoring, or online course that began on or after August 11, 2003"

-------------------2003??? did they just forget to update this??

2) "To invoke the Higher Score Guarantee, you must notify Kaplan within 90 days after the date your course access ends."

I have 2 questions about the above 2 excerpts.....

1) 2003?? how could u still be enrolled in a class that began before august 11th 2003? How could u still be enrolled in a class that began even a yr ago??

2)it says that u have 90 days to inform them from the time your course access ends....but in #1 above it says that you must be enrolled in a course....how could you have already taken the Actual Exam and still be enrolled in the course? How can you still be allowed to notify them within 90 days after the end of the course if you are required by #1 to be enrolled in a course?? that makes no sense.

Kaplan has great online resources. I was tempted to try the whole high score guarantee option after my 3 months ended but was lazy. Seems that most people use Kaplan as the foundation to their studying and the supplemental materials to strengthen the concepts. I'd get destroyer at least...just to get an idea of different question types if anything.

I don't know the specifics but my friend applied for the higher score guarantee after our class ended. You have 3 months after your class ends to apply for it. If you get approved, you will have complete access to the online materials as well as the option to attend class again.
