Hey guys! Noticed that there wasn't one of these for this semester and I love these types of threads. It's always fun to see the variety of classes that people take.

I'm a second semester junior biochemistry major!

I'm taking:
Biochemistry II (a majors only class)
Physical Chemistry (for biochemistry and BA chem majors)
Behavioral Neuroscience (for my psych minor)
Elementary German II
Women's Choir (I'm SO pumped. I did choir for 7 years throughout middle school and high school but haven't been able to fit it into my schedule until now)

How about you guys????

Nice! Super helpful for MCAT

Physical Chemistry (for biochemistry and BA chem majors)
WOOOO MATH CHEM

Behavioral Neuroscience (for my psych minor)
That's going to be nifty.

Elementary German II
Very interesting!

Women's Choir (I'm SO pumped. I did choir for 7 years throughout middle school and high school but haven't been able to fit it into my schedule until now)
AAAAHHHHH SO COOOL!! I did something similar with choir since I didn't have time until my last couple years

@freak7

Yes, the biochemistry class looks like it'll be super helpful for the MCAT. I work in one of the professors' lab, so I can pretty easily ask her for help if need be, which is nice. Seems like it'll be more straightforward than my hellish Biochem I class. PChem should be fun! Our version is a little less math intense than the other two versions for ChemEng and Chemistry BS majors, thankfully. But it's nice breaking out the math chops out again and to see derivations! Neuroscience and German are my "fun" classes, haha. And yes, choir is the best!! Music is great, I think more people should take a music class or be in an ensemble.

Wow. Today was the day I was officially declared a biochem major. How's Physical Chemistry and Biochemistry for you?

First Year Second Semester Student:
Genetics
General Chemistry 2
Calculus 1
Electron Microscopy
Anthropology (forced to take it.)

Not taking anything this semester. I graduated last June. I would love to take some graduate math courses though. I miss mathing. I have to settle for tutoring.
I really want to taken Iwasawa theory and Topology. I wish I could just audit at my local U

Welcome to the major! I started classes super late so I actually just had my first PChem and Biochem II class today - but they both seem like they won't be too bad. At my school, Biochem I is known to be the worst class in the major, and I managed to survive it with an A, so hopefully that's a good sign for the other classes!

Organic Chemistry 2 with lab
Graduate Genetics with lab
Audio Engineering
Theology ( i go to a catholic private)
And writing class core

Im a sophomore!

Organic Chemistry with lab

Genetics with lab

Chinese

Trigonometry

American Gov.

Sent from my iPhone using SDN mobile

Biochem 2 with lab
Quantitative analysis with lab
Genetics with lab
Programming in python
Research

As a senior I don't really mind having to take so many STEM courses. Labs suck though because they take so much time and are only worth 1 credit..

Omg aww you're so excited! My school doesn't offer a Biochem Major ( there's Gen. Bio, bioinformatics, bioethics, etc. and a gen chem and forensic chem)
I'm a sophomore and I also had trouble fitting choir into my schedule ....maybe I'll have time junior year! I did the choir thing in HS.

I'm taking;
Orgo I ( wish me luck....I had to W the first time, )
Genetics
Problems in genetics ( an accompanying 1 credit genetics recitation)
Criminology ( online gen eds!! WOOO)
Philosophy of Peace and non violence ( finally have a class on lovely south)
Experimental Methods in Biology ( A 2 credit, free standing Bio lab)

Last semester of undergrad. Biochem major. Only 4 classes, but it isn't fun fam:

Analytical Chemistry
Physical Quantum Chemistry
Lab in Enzymology
Molecular Bio (senior level class where we read 2 primary papers a week and discuss them...)

That looks pretty rough.

Wow a lot of people are taking genetics. Interesting.....

It's a freaking awesome course that puts the entire field of biology into perspective.

Yeah absolutely agree with you, a lot of people in my class (80%) are taking micro bio they want the easier A at my school

Last semester of senior year. Taking guitar, yoga, zumba, computer science, US history, and speech. Feels weird.

Genetics was slightly marred for me because I had a god awful professor for it. Didn't learn anything in his class. So sad. 🙁

Man that is unfortunate. I loved mine. He even wrote one of my LoR's!

That's great! It's ok though, because of my major, most of my classes have overlapped with a solid majority of the material we covered in genetics.

you'll hopefully enjoy biochem. for me that was an either/or situation. genetics was alright (besides doing a project on Lesch-Nyhan syndrome which was pretty cool), but biochem was pretty great.

I liked the content we covered in Biochem I, but it was TBL with a pretty incompetent professor (I have such bad luck...) but I think Biochem II will be a lot better. It looks like at my school it has a more signaling and molecular biology approach, which is actually really exciting, since I love that kind of stuff.

That's actually how my linear algebra course was. I dropped it after day one because he was so horrible. I thought there was no way I'd major in math after that, but calc 2 convinced me to give it another go. The second prof I had was pretty good, but more importantly he wasn't actively terrible and it helped me see how cool linear algebra is.

That's great! I only took Calc I and II (an easier version at that), but I was lucky enough to have amazing professors for both. I'm keeping an open mind about genetics and will admit that I do find medical genetics pretty fascinating. Professors really can make all the difference though, which kind of makes me sad since I've had some not so good ones with my upper level classes.

Genome technology
Nanotechnology
Multivariable stats in psychology
honor's thesis research
Neuroscience (Very excited for this class)

Good luck memorizing pathways LOL. I don't know how it was taught in your school but we had to draw out all the metabolism pathways (substrates and all) up to photosynthesis (which isn't too bad). But I think it gets progressively easier (depending on your school) especially the signalling and ubiquitin chapters which is very easy to follow and is most relevant to current research.

For Biochem I, we had to know the metabolic pathways, but we never had to draw them thankfully (we went up to Photosynthesis in that class). We mainly had to know key control points and be able to label what was going into important reactions if we were given a reactant and product in terms of strict memorization. Our class had a pretty heavy math focus as well, and each exam contained math based open responses. What we did cover, however, was in a lot of depth, which is what made things challenging imo. Biochem II is known to be the easier class at my school, and that's where we cover signaling and ubiquitin.

Neurobiology
Behavioural Economics
Physical Chem 1
Political Economy
2 credit research

not enough room for an econ minor but I still like learning about it 🙂

Histology, Gross anatomy, Systemic Physio!
