What classes needed for DAT

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Pre-reqs should include:
2 semesters Bio with Lab
2 semesters Organic with Lab
2 semesters Inorganic with Lab
2 semesters Physics with Lab
2 semesters English

Additional Courses to consider:
Genetics
Biochemistry
Microbiology
Anatomy
Physiology
Histology

Every school is different so look into the specific programs you're interested in. A strong foundation in the core science pre-reqs should at least get you through the DAT.

Although, there are plenty of students out there that have done well on the DAT without having completed all these pre-reqs and studying off the specific test prep materials mentioned on this site.

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to know what classes are needed to take the DAT. I know there are specific pre-reqs to take for the MCAT, so I was wondering if someone who is a dentistry student what pre-reqs did you take for the DAT.

There are no prereqs to take DAT, but there are classes you should take to make your life easier:
Genchem/Ochem/ Gen Bio/ Cell Bio+Molecular/ Physiology/Genetics/ Ecology+Evolution.

The bare minimum is 2 semesters of Inorganic (General) Chemistry, 2 semesters of Biology (Introductory level), and 2 semesters of Organic Chemistry. Physics preparation is not required for the DAT exam because it is not included on the DAT.

Math and Critical Reading you don't need specific classes, and the same applies for PAT. It's really formal education in the sciences is what counts. The other classes stated (Molecular Bio, Physiology, Genetics, Ecology, Evolution) will indeed help you out, but aren't the core classes "required" to do well on the DAT. It is also assumed that you have had plenty of prior experience with English/Language courses and Math courses.

Personally, I had formal classes in Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Introductory Biology, and Molecular/Cell Biology when I took my DAT exam.

Hope this helps! Good luck!
