I am going to be a senior next year (I plan on applying after my senior year), and my clinical experience is lacking. Other than a working in the ER for 8 hours a week for a semester as part of a class, I haven't done anything. My last two summers I have worked for a local police department enforcing local town ordinances in that town. This is usually around 48 hours a week. I am doing that this summer as well as I have been appointed to a supervisor position. I also plan on studying for the MCAT and taking it sometime in August or September.

What would you recommend me doing at this point? Is there anything I can do this summer? My mom is a nurse at a local hospital; maybe I should try to shadow a doctor there? If I can't get a doctor to shadow, what else is there to do this summer? What do you recommend I do when I get back to DC (I go to GWU) in September?

Contact Volunteer Services at your local hospital and get a volunteer position with patient contact. Volunteer at a hospital in DC when you go back to school. Shadow doctors. The two easiest/quickest ways to get clinical experience, since you will be applying in a year.
