What comp did you buy for dental school? NYU recommends a IBM or Dell. Did anybody get something else other than those recommended?

I don't go to NYU, but I recommend an Alienware.

First year in dental school? I played so much video games and it definitely was great for it!

Yes, my sister will be starting there in the Fall, and she just bought a new Gateway laptop a couple of days ago. It really shouldn't matter which brand you buy, so long as you meet their minimum system requirements. NYU probably recommends IBM or Dell because they have some sort of partnership agreement with them. For instance, they might receive discounted computers for use throughout their campus in exchange for recommending those brands to their students.

I got an IBM T-42.

Keep in mind that If you buy a diff brand than they recommend NYU computer services will not fix it if it breaks and you will have to ship out to who ever can fix it.

hey fellow future NYU'ers, I picked up an IBM x41.

I had a thinkpad for UG and it kept on ticking fine for 4+ years.

The bookstore does have a repair center their. I initially thought they only sold them. Looks like I will be buying my comp during orientation. They also give you a 3 year warranty as well...can't beat that.

yes I did. Ordered it online. Says 15 days before they get them to ship out.

if you go to the actual store, not the PDF, and click on "Products" near the top one you're in the IBM store, it displays every model available instead of just the select ones. Yes the x41 tablet is what I picked up.

i just ordered my computer through dell's website, i spent a bit more than what they were offering through the bookstore but it has much better specs and i still got the complete care 3 year warranty

Dell has been offering 750$ off 1500 coupons through their website for a while now on certain systems. You could check out the hot deals section off of fatwallet.com if you wanted more info. Dell's aren't my cup of tea though. I'm a Apple fan all the way. 😀

yeah dell isn't exactly what i wanted, but it was the safe choice cuz the nyu computer store will fix it under warranty or replace it if i drop it or anything like that..i just don't know if i could ever go for apple though, but if that's what you like 😀
