Hi, I was wondering about my reapplicant status for this year. Last year I was not very selective about where I apllied to using the centralized AMCAS, TMDSAS, and ACCOMAS application services. I applied to many schools but only completed the application process for three very selective schools that were my top choices, most off the other schools I never filled out the secondary or declined interviews at a couple of them. I am now waitlisted at two schools but am applying again so I will be early this time. Many schools ask if you are reapplying and I don't know how to answer this. Do I count schools where I did not send in the secondary last year or declined an interview as "applying" since I did not complete the entire application process?? I am thinking no? I would appreciate any insight on this!

If you have paid AMCAS or ACOMAS more then once, you are a reapp

If you have paid AMCAS one year, then Acomas the next or vice-versa, you are a reapp

gratulations, there is a whole forum just for you!

i think it depends on the school. i would call the admission office and ask them what their definition of a reapplicant is.
i know that when i have done some calling this year to see if i was considered a reapplicant or not (to know whether or not to check that darn box on amcas) i was told by most schools i called that i would not be considered a reapplicant if the only thing they received from me was the amcas info.....they told me that i would not be a reapplicant unless i had submitted a secondary application for that program before. in fact out of my entire list there is only one school i am a technical reapplicant at and that was because they did receive my secondary with all supporting materials. another school does not consider me a reapplicant because even though i submitted my secondary it was missing a piece of the application (a dean's letter) which arrived after the application deadline so therefore my secondary was never complete.
imho you can not make a general statement about what a school will do without calling them and asking.
gl and hopte this helps

I really appreciate the feedback Mommy2three. I called a few schools I was interested in applying to and essentially said the same thing, most said the admissions committee will not even consider your application unless your file is complete. This means completing a secondary application and interview. I've never completed a secondary for a DO school so it will essentially be like my first time applying, despite the fact I paid AACOMAS. I hope this helps some people in a similar situation! Unfortunately we have people like Toohotinvegas33 who don't know what they are talking about, hopefully this type of applicant is not representative of who DMU is accepting these days. If so we got some incompetent physicians on the horizon! Bottom line: Please do not respond if you do not have any experience or knowledge of what your talking about!😀

Reason #2 to question your intelligence........

Well...at least he is going to become a physician.

You, on the other hand, have been rejected from every medical school you applied to thus the necessity for this thread. You might never get in anywhere.

👍

You can call Vegas "doctor" while you re-write your personal statement.

BTW...can someone post one of those "OWNED" picture things?

I dont think it would be appropriate for me to do it.

😉

I know people who never completed a secondary and still were accepted. They got in purely on their primary app, GPA, and MCAT score. When schools see exceptional applications come through (with well above average GPAs and MCATs), they will sometimes contact the student before they fill out a secondary. They have recruiters who look for applications just like that.

So...the point is that just because you didn't fill out a secondary doesn't necessarily make it your first time.

Hmmm, I thought the title of "doctor" was reserved for AFTER someone completes a doctoral program! Nice logic JPHazelton... consider yourself owned!!! 🙂

Exactly. Vegas will be a doctor while you are still re-applying. (or would it be re-re-re-applying?)

If simple concepts like this pass you by, you better go about picking a new career.

I hear podiatry is popular with the rejects.

this has nothing to do with the OP's question...I just have a random and inappropriate comment-

JPHazelton you seem really sexy to me. Please confirm or deny this...

lol...expected that...now you go back to putting people in their place- I like when you do that *and now back to being professional (sort of)*

You got it

🙂

I realize that some schools may do this, mainly VWCOM, but this is not the norm. Since you do not know which schools I applied to let me tell you they will not consider an applicant unless they completed all the requirements for admission including secondaries, letters, interviews, etc. Just to remind you, I only applied to three schools and they were all public out of state leaving me at a huge disadvantage, speaking more of where I live than my stats. There are many people who have to apply to medical school every year for a variety of reasons, many with outstanding stats. For myself, I got interviews at every school that I completed a secondary but unfortunately I had to decline many interviews because of some major life events during the last cycle. To say that someone is not going to be a doctor and reach their goals to someone you know nothing about, except they are applying for a second time, is rediculous and has no credibility. I have no doubts my stats will land me several acceptances this next cycle. However, I have had my question answered by the schools I plan on applying to and by the person who actually responded to the post, Mommy2three so this will be my last post on this thread. Sorry JPHazelton... I don't have time to play your games, I actually have a life (4800 posts, what a loser!) Try not to bash on professions you have no understanding of and obviously can't comprehend (i.e. podiatry).

If your a doctor what are you doing in the PRE-OSTEOPATHIC forums! Sounds to me like you have some issues!

Thats "Doctor Loser" to you.

And YOU are calling ME a loser?

I'm not the one who couldnt get in to medical school. 😆

And if you do the math you see that my total comes to 1.8 posts per day. 😀

Since you mentioned DMU in your first post when you called Toohot, I assume that DMU is one of the schools to which you are applying. If this is the case, applicants absolutely CAN be interviewed w/out completing a secondary application. Now before you go telling me that I don't know what I'm talking about; While on campus at DMU I was an interviewer for admissions & am very familiar w/ the process.

Interviewers can & do evaluate & accept students based on only the primary application & interview performance. The main reason for this is that the DMU secondary application has very little of substance & is something that I would barely glance over before interviewing someone. And, btw, something we always asks ourselves is if we could see the applicant as a colleague. Get rid of the attitude or no one will ever be able to answer 'yes' when considering your application.

Agreed. Some schools use certain parts of the application as a "tie breaker"

Perhaps the OPs obstinance is one of the reasons he is having to reapply.

Was what I said incorrect? If you don't like my answer I'm sorry. I just like to make things straight and simple and to not throw in all kinds of BS circumstances, besides somes schools like to see reapps, it shows dedication. Don't post on this forum if you don't like "real" answers to your questions. PM me and ill give you some interview tips, I can see you get your panties in a bunch when someone has an opinion different then yours.

btw, I only applied once😉

yes some schools do not consider you a reapp unless you have completed a secondary with ALL necessary other paperwork turned in. just because you have paid the service once does not mean you are a reapp.
while it is great that you got in your first time all of us are not so lucky and will have to reapply....there are plenty of people who apply every year and would make wonderful doctors yet do not get in for some reason or another. there is NO need to look down on anyone who has to reapply or to be snarky to them.

If you didn't get the secondary or you knew that the 2.8 18L mcat wasn't going to get you in and you made a wise decision to scrap that application year and to improve you stats and (holds breath) reapply for next year, you are a reapplicant. And for the record I never said anything bad about reapplicants. Although I worked hard for my good stats, I do consider myself fortunate to have only applied once.

huh...seems to me the OP was the first one to get "snarky" in this thread, not vegas
