Hello.
I am an International Student, so I am not too sure what it means to do extracurricular activity.

1. What would be considered extracurricular? ..

2. How important is this in one's application?

Thank you.

An extracurricular activity is any activity that is not directly related to your course work. For example, if you tutor, if you are a teaching assistant, if you do research, if you play on a sports team, if you volunteer, if you shadow, those are all extracurricular activities. They are very important at most schools, because the school wants to see that you are a well-rounded applicant. They want to know that you have more to offer than just academic excellence or great test scores. Also, extracurriculars can set you apart from other applicants. I hope this was helpful, if not let me know and I'll try to explain it differently 🙂

This is very confusing because most of these are not labeled as extracurriculars on PharmCAS. I had nothing in that field (which i felt bad about) because my tutoring, TAing, and research experience all went under jobs. It even says to put volunteer research experience under jobs in the Information section, which makes no sense to me.

The pharmcas instructions are somewhat ambiguous as to where things go but I think in all honesty it doesn't matter all that much as the school is going to see it all anyway. They prob don't care...hence your acceptance to Mercer despite an empty EC field. Congrats by the way.

Everything I got paid for went under work and the rest went under EC. Probably a good divider.

Thank you!!!!

Sure no problem 🙂 Sorry Bkiskadd, I am not familiar with apps to Pharm school, it sounds way different than the AMCAS app I used...we just had a section for activities and all ECs (jobs, volunteering, etc) went under that same section. Good luck everyone! :luck:
