Does a research assistant count as a leadership position? I'm thinking it doesnt, but what do u guys think?

What are some examples of leadership that may not be obvious?

No to be a leader you have to have people you lead. Being an officer of a club or organization, being a team leader or coach, a project leader, an employer, etc.

being a research assistant could be leadership depending on what you did. were there people under you? what did your research involve? if youjust worked with test tubs all day, maybe not but if you worked getting information from people like taking surveys or something like that it could totally count.
dont think you have to be an organization officer to have leadership experience, have you ever worked with kids? tutoring? arranging activties? setting and example is leading - mentoring? there are all kinds of things...

I didnt have anyone working under me....but I interviewed patients.

I think you'll have a hard time convincing anyone that this is a leadership position. You certainly don't want to sound arrogant, and say that you're somehow in charge of a patient (especially since you're a research assistant). Better not to offend anybody...

I agree with this. It's not actually hard to demonstrate leadership. You don't necessarily have to be president or co-founder of something. What was said about having you lead people is the basal requirement. Just search your experiences when you were able to do that. A research assistant position can actually demonstrate leadership, such as a big laboratory lab and you are the one to train the new underlings. Taking the initiative to be a leader in unorthodox situations is admirable, too. I don't think it's too arrogant if your completely sincere. (No, you shouldn't be a leader of patients 😛)

Ok thanks everyone! I am not going to make the research assistant a leadership position since I dont feel I was actually a leader.
