What counts as research experience?

I'm a Public Health Major. For my school, this is a relatively new degree, therefore, there isn't a lot of new research opportunities. However, for our capstone, under the guidance of our professor, do our own research, collect data, and write a comprehensive (15+ page) research paper that we had to do a poster presentation on. Does this count as academic research?

My hypothesis is: does long-term exposure to Volatile Organic Compounds impact the health of Nail Technicians.

Results: was that it did to varying degree. Citing 15 published research papers and 5 clinical trials.

So you did a meta-analysis? As opposed to a simple literature search?
