I have tutored German and intro Bio at my college. Would this count as teaching for my ECs? Someone told me that it has to be outside of college (like teaching high school kids etc.) or working as a T.A. Anyone know about this?

I would call that tutoring and not teaching.

I tutored chem at my college and on my AMCAS it went under "Teaching/Tutoring"

Tutoring, TAing, coaching, mentoring are all activities that could be listed under Teaching. If you volunteered to do it, you have the choice of listing it as a community service-nonmedical. If you were paid, you have the choice of listing it as employment-nonmilitary. Your choice will depend on which selection makes your application more balances. Volunteering to teach off campus seems to be more desirable as it serves the wider community than just your co-students, from what I've observed, but both are still altruistic activities.

how important is it to have teaching experience? Also, can you count "teaching" as "leadership experience"?

Hmmm

I used to be a licensed high school teacher. Guess I get to check that box off.
