what dat score should I get at least ?

I am going to apply next year..

I haven't taken DAT yet and will be taking next summer.


I am kinda nervous about my DAT score, just wondering what score is going to be competitive ..


I am attending state university

science GPA 3.6

EC...

Two research, honor research for OChem, and linguistics

1000+ volunteer and 500 shadowing

I was majoring in Art before ( I was accepted from one of the best art school in US " SAIC " ) but not graduated.

band leader, playing guitar for almost 10years,

Teaching experience at art academy, language teacher, teaching juijitsu during the time in Army, fitness trainer

Juijitsu for 5 years, basketball team leader

1st degree of judo

Predental society.



as you can see , I have very weird ECs though. I heard that alot of ECs might be helpful to show dental schools that I am well rounded person, however, I am not sure if these weird ECs ( never related to Dentistry ... ) can help though.


also, I have about 10 Ws on my transcript, I was really bad student before, I was more artistic person. I didn't like to study and hanging out with freinds and crazy about sports , art, music.

Now, I am trying to be good student after I changed my major to biology .. I am getting all good grade and I am still making my GPA higher.


These days, I am kinda getting stressed because the date I apply for dental school is getting closer...
I didn't think about anything when I started to study this field, but it's getting bigger pressure now.

I finished all my prerequisite courses except Physics II and now only thing I need to do is taking DAT...

Can you guys please tell me about my stats so far, and the competitive DAT score I need to get.. ?

I am international student..


also, I don't care about level of dental school , it's going to be perfect if I can get into any of dental schools.

higher DAT always help your cause. Get 20+ you will be competitive.

I am no expert, but I am sure you have to be able to reason the 10 Ws, "I liked to hang out with my friends" won't cut it.

Just being realistic. And being an international student will put you on some disadvantage, but you would have to look into see what schools are international-friendly.

your ECs look great and unique. Hopefully, it'll make you stand out.

Being a previous art major and all your music experience will help show them manual dexterity.

Just work hard, and do your best on the DATs 🙂

aim for 31. If you get 29, be happy with it.

Most people are successful with a 19 or above. It can be tough to get in with an 18 unless you have a great gpa (3.7+). If you score a 17 or lower then you'll most likely need to retake (although there probably are some out there with 3.9+ gpa's who get in with a 17).
