Hello Everyone,

I already sent in my deposit in on Monday for Michigan. I'm in the same situation many of you have been in. Today I received an interview invite for Tufts. Now I'm wondering if I should go or not? If you interviewed at Tufts, what did you think? I already know the cost is high. What did you think about the clinic and sim clinic and basic thoughts? If you interviewed at Tufts and Michigan, please let me know differences that you saw. Thanks guys.

Tufts is my favorite school that i have been to (ive also been other schools than those i interviewed at such as USC and UCLA) and its where i sent my deposit. BUT if i get a Cali school (or UNLV which is close to Cali) i'll probably go there. But as for the school itself it was definitely my favorite.

And like you said one of the biggest downsides is the price...

I loved Tufts when I interviewed there. I was accepted there and it was definitely a top choice for me, but I got into my state school and #1 choice at UW, so I chose to go there.

But the sim lab is now moved up to the 14th floor of the vertical expansion and is completely amazing. The postgrad clinics are on the top floors as well. The school in itself is very impressive. However, the predoc clinic is still down on floors 2-4 I think, and is still pretty standard from all the schools that I visited.

Although expensive, you can see that the money is being put to good use. The school is very impressive and Boston is great. The interview is really laid back and pretty informal. Unless you are sure that you want to attend Michigan, I would suggest going on the interview and taking a day or two to spend in Boston. The city is amazing and there is so much to do.

I think I will end up probably going. If its a school I can seriously see myself attending, I should go. Thanks for the feedback!

Me personally, I just canceled it. Why? because I didn't want to pay 1000 dollars or so to fly out there, miss school and work, just for a chance at getting an offer---->which if I accepted would put me in the hole WAY WAY more than my state school.

Airfare will only cost me $151 roundtrip. My state school didn't accept me and I'm probably doing the military so cost doesn't matter.

oh well if ur doing military u should have said so......check it out as cost is a non-factor. Except the stipend won't go as far. Be sure to check out the North End for some awesome Italian food.

Thats true about the stipend, as Im sure Ann Arbor is a little cheaper than Boston! Thanks for the info.

I declined my interview offer as well. I know I probably shot myself in the foot, but airfare and hotels were outrageous, and I can't see myself living in Boston and paying so much for school, even if I did get in.

You could still hear something from Nova or Minnesota. :xf: for you.

I just interviewed there today and I have to say, Tufts really is as great as everyone says it is... and, I'm sure you realize, it's also really as expensive. But, eh, people do attend there and pay off the loans eventually, right? If possible (and within your budget), definitely try to interview there, if only to get to tour the place.

thanks man, I know but I'm preparing myself to hear nothing.....hopefully I do hear something.

I interviewed at UofM this past Monday and Tufts this past Wednesday (got my acceptance to Tufts last night so they have a very quick turnaround) so I know what you're feeling. There are a few major (in my opinion) differences in their curricula, but both offer a terrific atmosphere. Having gone to UofM for undergrad A2 is an amazing place, but downtown Boston is well, downtown Boston. UofM will allow you to get early clinical experience; whereas, Tufts will make you wait until the end of year 2. UofM will allow you to place implants under supervision but Tufts will not allow you to place an implant as a pre-doc. Tufts focuses more on the basics and has more time spent in the simlab working with materials, and as frustrating as it may be, it is part of their philosophy. Tufts is great and transparent and in the interview they said they admit 75-80% of students they interview. The interview is very casual, so if you have any interest put up the money to go to the interview. When you compare it to the cost of the DAT, AADSAS, secondaries, and (oh yeah) dental school it really isn't much. Tufts will ask for a $1500 deposit within 30 days another $500 by April 15 if you get in. Both great schools. If I get in to UofM I'd probably go there because of the curricula and cost of living (not that Ann Arbor is all that cheap), but anyone will be happy at either.
