What did you diagnose yourself with today?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Why are you encouraging my delusions? 🙁
I don't think anyone likes me enough to let me lick their arm, or vice versa.

That is awful.

Everyone should have at least one friend who will let ya lick their arm for a good cause.

You maybe want to rethink some life choices, my friend.

here you go my man

I convinced myself I have an AAA because I can see my abdomen pulsating when I'm laying supine and capturing it between my fingers appears to be greater than 3cm... I volunteered as the model for the abdominal ultrasound module but they might have missed it?

your profile pic: "when no one believes you have a ruptured AAA so you have to find it and fix it yourself"

Influenza A, H3N2. No really. Swab positive.

Second flu in 4 weeks. (Had Flu B last block.) This one is way worse. I feel like I've been punched everywhere. Also, transient gastroparesis, which makes the whole "plenty of fluids" thing really hard to accomplish. I'm so hungry, but nothing solid wants to stay with me at all.

🙁 Hang in there. 🙁

It will all be over soon.

Yes. In the "all bleeding stops" kind of way, I fear.

I'm not measuring my I&Os strictly, but I'd reckon I'm about 2 liters volume down right now. Still making urine, though. That is going to be my clue to present for care. Trying hard not to wash up in my own Emergency Room this morning. Assuming I can find an immodium to get me there safely. Starting to think this is not the flu but freaking cholera. Sorry. Very gross.

Thank you for the hug. Those are good medicine.

Oh, man. That one is super dangerous.

It has a cure, but you have to work at it.

Diagnose etiology first - is it 2/2 exhaustion, depression, or some other acquired cause? Easy. Treat the source, and the symptom should resolve.

If it is congenital, the cure is much harder, but there is still hope.

Lol I love this thread, I’m slightly less worried that I have MS than I was 10 minutes ago. I guess it could be MSS 😛

So when does medical student syndrome go away? Is it lifelong or will my immune system eventually take care of it?
We don't have enough longitude data to make a conclusive statement on this 🙂

Is that kidney pain? Nope, that's low back pain from sitting on a computer or hunched over a book all day.

You definitely don’t have MS, it’s clear as day when you really have it (for the patient).

Actually have a cousin who developed her first symptoms of MS mid shelf exam. All of a sudden her right hand just wasn’t able to “click” on the mouse button. She made it through the exam using the mouse in her left hand (and passed), walked across the street, and self-presented to the ED thinking she was having a stroke.

24 hours later, MRI, boom - Dawson’s Fingers clear as day.

I have congenital apathy. Right after I was born, the doctors were like, "breathe", and I was like, "why?"

Ended up in the NICU for 6 weeks (true story).

As a still-premed, I was taking developmental neuro this semester.

I was sure I had fragile X syndrome.

*looks through chart of typical presentation of FXS patient*
- wow I have flat feet!
- wow I have big ears!
- wow I have ADHD!
- wow I have a minor speech impediment!

OH MY GOD I HAVE FRAGILE X SYNDROME.

Sampler of what’s to come in medical school...

I've been worried I have CF, colon cancer, a brain aneurysm... All sorts of fun stuff. Isn't medical student syndrome great?

do you have giant gonads?

I shouldn't have laughed as hard as I did at this. I'm going to hell.

Few days ago I was so sure I had malaria,i live in an endemic region so it's inevitable to have malaria frequently. It has been more than 3 years since I have had malaria but somehow I thought maybe this time around that was it.Did an MRDT and it was negative turns out it was just an URTI.

I had the same issue. Shared it here:

Medical Student Disease/Syndrome

I fit this. I thought I had a AAA for a long time. Then I scanned myself for reassurance.

I wish I was kidding.

I was rock climbing without a shirt on and after doing a relatively easy pitch quickly, ~800 feet off the ground my partner says, I can see your pulse on your stomach. Low and behold, you could see the deflections on my abdominal wall with each pulse. I had learned about AAA years prior. Despite having zero risk factors, couldn't get it out of my head for several months, every time I'd have my shirt off I'd notice it. So I took an ultrasound probe and checked. Then I scanned myself in the research MRI scanner just to be extra sure. (didn't really feel like getting extra radiation from the CT)
-----------------------------

Thankfully, I'm reasonably skilled with an ultrasound and know what I'm looking for 😉

I am completely convinced I was having petit mal seizures when I was a kid because i use to be caught staring into space all the time.... currently covering epilepsy in neuro lol

for free?

Decided today that in addition to probable cystic fibrosis, I also have a melanoma on my face. Making an appointment for a skin check tomorrow.

I just finished my Heme/Onc block.
I currently have
1. Anemia of Chronic Disease (from an unknown cause but I know I have a chronic disease somewhere)
2. Raynauds Syndrome
3. Hodgkins Lymphoma
4. AML
5. An enlarged spleen causing loss of appetite
6. Dengue Fever

Depends on the hour which of these DDx is accurate.

Oh and unrelated to heme onc I decided the puppies I just got DEFINITELY shared one of their parasites with me. I’ve had a few tumors, had scoliosis that wasn’t caught as a child, carpal tunnel syndrome, and I’ve had leukemia a few times.

Ive also had MS, lupus IBS and “something inflammatory in my back but I’m not smart enough to know what yet”

The worst part is that you have to live in your own body so your start to hyper analyze everything. Definitely have convinced myself I have MS, then realized I just had a clogged ear that was causing my dizziness. Cleaned out the ear, felt not dizzy, then I got an ear infection from spraying dirty water into my ear. Ya my finals week kinda sucks

🙁

I'm convinced I have a pheo... although it could just be the caffeine... but probs a pheo

Well do you have marfinoid body habitus and mucosal neuromas or parathyroid hyperplasia? Gotta know if you got MEN 2A or B bro! May as well check for med thryoid carcinoma while youre at it...

Recently dx’ed myself with caffeine abuse induced afib, so the real question is can i afford apixaban or should i just take the L and go for warfarin?

currently have rheumatoid arthritis, endometriosis, and there's definitely fungus growing in my eyeballs
