Current 2nd year at a DO school. Looking into the possibility of transferring schools to start 3rd year clinicals in July/August 2017. What DO schools accept students that have already finished the pre-clinical curriculum and completed COMLEX step 1? My family lives in the East/Southeast region of the US, only reason I say so is that I've heard its easier to transfer to a region close to home

Without a mitigating factor, I think most schools are simply reluctant to either allow you to transfer or take you as a transfer. Just wanting to be close to home doesn't sound like a good reason.

Any updates on your transfer request?

I guess it depends on what you got on COMLEX level 1 and pre-clinical grades , and how convincing you are. No harm in contacting a school about it...the worst they can say is "no".

But even if they say yes, the dean of your college will have to say yes. If they were to say no, you are SOL and I would fear for my dean's letter.

AlbinoHawk makes a good point. I guess have a good reason for bringing it up to the dean in the first place, maybe a little more than you wanna go back home.

Never thought of that s***

Yeah, I'd be wary of contacting schools with clearly identifiable information. I'd straight up call schools and say, "Hi I'm a DO student at another institution and I'm wondering if you accept transfer students after the Level 1 exam". They should be able to give you an answer without you giving too much info away. Honestly though, the likelihood of finding a place that will accept you as a transfer with no really strong reason is pretty low.

I don't see why they wouldn't accept as a transfer? Almost every school has prob lost at least 2 or more students form their current 3rd year class so why wouldn't they want a solid student to take that place and fill that seat for graduation?

It's not just the school you want to go to, the current school you are at has to give approval as well.

I didn't end up pursuing it, too much stuff going on now with COMLEX 1 coming up and maintaining grades in current classes. Plus the process seems brutal to try to set up and go through
