hi! i ran into this forum; ill be starting med school next year. I have done quite a bit of basic sci research in molecular diagnostics of cancer with some publications. I dont mean to make it sound (mr. stephenw) as if I only took this on to please admissions boards but is this the kind of research that will appeal if I applied radonc for residency or does it have to be more clinical type research? I know i still have a long road ahead to think about this stuff but im curious is all. Thanks!

actually its ms stephew (steph isn't short for stephen- common mistake).
Nothing wrong with practical issues.

My $0.02, I'd say that this type of research is fine. However, I'd also encourage you to continue showing your committment to whatever field you want to enter. Find ways to get involved early in research DURING medical school (but don't let it get in the way of good grades). Pure bench work can be hard to carry out without dedicated time such as a summer or even a year off, but perhaps data mining in the molecular diagnostics arena or chart reviews in your chosen field will allow a little more flexibilty to study for exams. Work hard, meet the right people at your school, and things will work out.
Good luck!
