my stats are 3.97 and 29 mcat. i have a lot of ecs and research, etc. im also a business major at UT (sometimes its good and other times its a bad thing) i interviewed at everywhere in texas, including baylor (except for tcom). i ranked my top 3= sw, houston, galves. and baylor would be my dream school. what do yall think my chances are with the tmdsas schools if i feel i had good interviews? i know this is a hard question to answer, but im especailly curious to see how i would fare up against ut-houston and galveston? am i a shoe-in to these schools or should i be worried. i cant take this wait anymore. 😡

you've waited this long....whats another week 😀

very good gpa. decent mcat.

you did get interviews so thats always a good sign.

im not tx applicant so i cant say too much about your chances...but i do hope your match turns out well. i have some friends waiting too 🙂

he's just bitter because he interviewed at 6 schools and only got into his last choice. just cause it happened to you doesnt mean its gonna happen to other people. omar, the fact that youre a first year ms on a pre-med board and talking **** is just pathetic.

a 3.97? that's awesome - I would think you'd be competitive anywhere with that. the 29 is fine as long as you didn't get below a 9 on each section.

So what did you get the A- in??? That's going to hurt you.

I'm just happy you didn't rank San Antonio first. Good luck with Baylor!

hey all im saying is that tech loves business majors.

everyone here is UT business major, sorry to offend u though, i guess i forgot its a stressful time.

Holler at me if u match here, but realistically, u have a shot at UTMB too, if that gives u some relief.

But I'd love to welcome u to tech holler at me feb 1st😉

i got an 8 in phys, but an 11 in verbal so who knows. i know a guy who got a 7 in verbal (31 overall) who got into baylor in oct, so who knows. and to omar, sorry if i overreacted, but u think i only have a shot at utmb or tech? also, my roommate was a business major and got into baylor and my mcat teacher was a business major and got into utmb.

look im sorry for scaring u, i was having fun w/ that first post. But ur not a shoe-in at any of these schools. I had all the interviews including baylor, w 30 mcat, and i am at tech and i was a MIS major. Alot of my classmates here have 30 mcats and and had interivews at UTSW and mathced here so what im saying is that ur not a shoe in.

but u could match at any of those schools, but its really random, theres no way to know what'll happen.

by the way, im not bitter at all, I love tech so much, The people who match here are definetly gonna have fun. Its like UT all over again.

gluck on the match and try not to stress out

peace

i think ur putting too much emphasis on mcat..what was ur gpa, if u dont mind?

it was 3.75

did u have crappy interviews at the other schools or something, cuase ive heard that if u get like 6 or 7 interviews u have a good chance of getting into ur top 3 choice...

My interviews were good. What hurt me was i prolly didnt have much clinical expreience. i had a bucnh of computer programming and breakdancing experience, that impressed UTSW, tech and baylor,

all the other schools kinda questioned my motivation cuz im a business major.

peace

Omar

oh whatever.....dont listen to Omar. I think your GPA is definitely outstanding and your MCAT is good also. And hopefully you made yourself even shine more at the interviews. I actually think you might have a good shot at Baylor. I really wish you the best.
BTW, do you have a lot of clinical experience, and whatabout your EC. Anything outstanding or unique? Cuz that would definitely make up for the MCAT (dont get me wrong....your MCAT is good but unfortunately Baylor loves those w/ 30+ 🙁 ) .
Regardless, I wish you the best of luck...hopefully you can get to your top choices. I actually think you have a good shot.

i dunno...did i miss something?

i didnt think omar was being an as$.

but anyways...i think for any medical school...the mcat is a very important factor.

i think you might be at a slight disadvantage because you have a high gpa but a 29 mcat.

many will say that a lower gpa can be somewhat overlooked by a high mcat score however a person with a high gpa but lower mcat might not be looked upon as favorably.

but you said you have good ECs and everything so overall from what you tell me your overall application seems solid and i would hope that you are pretty competitive for spots in the three schools that you mentioned above.

thanks, you made me feel a lot better. some of the clinical experience i had was interning for an opthamologist, volunteering in 2 hospitals, doing endometrial cancer research, working in a invitro (IVF) lab= inseminating and cyro freezing sperm, eggs, etc. there was more, i cant remember right now lol. other ec's were basketball, football, bunch of organizations, etc. i also worked a lot in college. also, for jlee9531, when i went to baylor, a bunch of the ms's said that i mustve had a really strong application to get an interview with a 29. however, i think i said before that i know a guy who got in with a 31 in oct, so maybe baylor isnt all numbers? disenchanted, do u think my ec's are good enough?

my clinical experience was that I went to the hospital alot for busting my head open doing backflips and landing on my head.

i did neurology research dealing with electromyography and when the dude at baylor asked me "what the research was for" I said, " I forgot, it was along time ago"

say no to drugs people

i guess thats why im at tech, hey i hope that comforted u some too

I think ur ECs are awesome, now im dissapointed that u wont be coming to tech🙂

According to US News, Baylor was the 5th most selective school in the country according to its numbers. Average GPA = 3.80, average MCAT = 33.6. But you're right-- strong numbers never mean you're a shoe-in and weaker numbers never mean the game is over. Experiences and LOR's count for a lot. You've also got a higher GPA than Baylor's average (was it from a tier 1 school?), so your lower than Baylor's average MCAT may not hold you back as much as you may think. Good luck and keep us posted. 🙂

Wow, very impressive!!
Just think about it this way. Baylor interviewed you in the first place b/c they could see u as a potential student, otherwise they wouldn't bother, particularly with an MCAT that is lower than their average. So your application must have been pretty strong despite that mediocre MCAT for that institution. Additionally, if the avg MCAT is 33.4 then that means that their are some people that are being accepted in the 29-30 ranges to balance those being accepted in the 36-40 ranges. So all i have to say is that be optimistic and hopeful but dont put too much weight on one institution because if you dont get into that one it will dissapoint you. Have your options open in terms of SW, Houston, etc but hope for the best. Good luck !!

Hey I just want to point out something: At many schools, the average stats of those being interviewed are similar to the stats of those being accepted. So obviously the school has to interview people who have stats below average, because around half of the students who matriculate actually have stats below average! (Assuming a normal bell curve of distribution).

This just came up to my mind a lot because I see this a lot on SDN 😉
