LOR: decent letters, none great
1st anesthesiology rotation in september

Is matching in california doubtful, possible, or likely?

Any suggestions???

apply to Cali and outside of it for some backups.

Also what school do you go to? If you are at a Cali or top 20 type school i would say your chances are almost certain.

this reply should go in your other post...

as per your other post, (rads vs gas) with your step I and relative lack of Honors, rads is a real long shot for you without strong personal contact with a program that really likes you.

gas you could match really well.


why not try both? many people in this past years match ended up in gas as their back-up to rads. before i could figure out what i wanted to do (i matched in gas, but would have been just as happy in rads) i interviewed in both, sometimes at the same hospital. nobody ever asked me about it, and eras allows noone to know.

you'll see fellow rads interviewees on the gas interview trail...many winks and knowing nods get exchanged.

I was, but it was only on 1 interview. They asked me if I was applying to anesthesia as a back up (and they mentioned rads specifically). I found it very strange, considering I would consider my anesthesia application average at best. Since its not uncommon for people to apply to multiple specialties (esp "lifestyle" specialities), I guess the interviewers know and ask about it.

Does everyone else think that its a long shot to match into radiology with sdboy's stats??? Thats pretty tough... What kind of stats do people in rads have?

from first person experience, definitely a real long shot....rads wants to see high boards and honors in clerkships. unless he has a strong connection somehwhere.

i hope he likes gas.

good luck. gas is a great silver medal, if that's your outlook.

but why not try for both? people *really* overestimate the obstacles to applying and interviewing in both...nobody really cares as long as you speak tactfully.
