I had a few questions about the following medical schools, does anyone know someone who went to these schools, and what the schools ranks are:

1) Howard School of Medicine (Located in Washington, DC)

2) Tulane University School of Medicine

3) Albany Medical College

4) Ponce School of Medicine

5) Universidad Central Del Caribe

6) Meharry Medical College

I know that 'MT Headed' is attending #2. HTH.

I know people consider them as the safer medical schools based on acceptance stats.

1 and 6 are HBCs that have a medical school.

Historically black
2) Tulane University School of Medicine
Solid middle of the road private med school; received ~10k apps/year, so u gotta stand out with ECs and well-written secondaries
3) Albany Medical College
Another solid middle of the road med school
4) Ponce School of Medicine
In Puerto Rico, need to be fluent in Spanish, generally takes just people from the island or with strong connections
5) Universidad Central Del Caribe
Same as Ponce
6) Meharry Medical College
Historically black

That's about all the info I can provide

HBC's = "Hot Babe Conventions"

OOPs...I thought he meant #4 and #5.

In this case(#1 and #6), HBC's = Historically Bootilicious Colleges

Very clever. Took me a sec.

Albany is okay, I know a lot of people study there and go on to great residencies, especially in California. I didn't really like the vibe there but I was only there for one day and didn't really get to meet any students, although that would have been a small sample size. They do have a decent clinical skills training center.

Right. I'm starting Tulane in about a week. Honestly, Tulane was my 7th of 7 interviews, and all the medical schools started to look the same after a while (at least for my purposes). But it's located right next to the French Quarter of New Orleans, which is hella-fun if you have the $$$ and are a little older.

Tulane isn't ranked because for whatever reason they do not submit data to USNews. If you look back into history, they always seemed to rank at 50-something when they did submit the data. They say ranking is based largely on research dollars, and we have more research dollars now than we did before the storm, so I'm sure we rank about 50-something.

Most Tulane matriculants have some sort of solid public service under their belt. Americorps, Peace Corps, Teach for America, Washington DC ngo's, etc. On the rare occasion we find a student who doesn't have this kind of experience, we are like "whoa, you mean you got in just because you were smart?"

There are some lengthy reviews of Tulane, both good and ugly, in the Allopathic 2011-2012 subforum.

Sephiroth summarized it... if you want a recommendation then I would recommend AMC...

Good luck
