I want to get first-person input on what people think about their choice of med school. What do you feel is special/unique about your school? Is there anything you wish you had known before you applied?

Thanks so much!

Hmm... what do I like BEST about my school. Thats a very hard question I guess I have two answers:

1. They gave me a scholarship.
2. They will give me an MD degree provided I make it through another 3 years.

hey Fly,

you don't seem to be very enthusiastic about Jeff...I'll be joining JMC this August and I was wondering if there is smth you wanna share with us first year students...

It's just fine. Don't worry; you'll be glad you're in med school.

My School PROs:

1. Diverse student body.
2. Patient exposure
3. Level of Hands-on experience (one edge of double-edged sword)

Cons:

1. Tuition
2. School faculty can make you want to hurt instead of heal a lot of the time.
3. Location, location, location (other edge of double-edged sword)

I love the people at my school, the fairly laidback/noncompetitive atmosphere, the location and community outreach/service opportunities, the pass/fail grading, the level of excellent handson clinical training, the enthusaism and general coolness of the faculty and staff.

I hate the humid weather in the summer and the cold in the winter.

I wish I knew that the grading system actually does matter, that there is such a wide variety of vacation lengths/timing in the 3rd and 4th years and that it matters, and I'm glad I figured out that it's not the school's prestigiousness but the kind of education you think you're going to get and how you feel when you're there. (aka, that there is no reason to kill yourself among mega-gunners when you could get an equally good or better education in a more relaxed but attentive environment).

Hi there,
I loved my medical school because:

1. They awarded me a full-ride scholarship for all four years so I have almost no debt.
2. The location was great and urban.
3. I was able to learn what I needed to do well on USMLE and match into a great residency.
4. My class was cohesive and diverse. We really had a great time and I miss lots of those folks.
5. There were plenty of folks who graduated before me who have been great mentors. We all have a strong sense of giving back to the school and those who come behind us.

From his avatar, I am guessing UVa......
hmmm, "urban and great" and "cohesive and diverse class?" probably not uva.

Pros: Great clinical experience, friendly administration and teachers, relaxed class atmosphere
Cons: I didn't get a scholarship 😉
