Well I have been working on my degree for med school, and I have been making mostly A's and couple B's. But starting in May I can start paramedic courses and complete the courses by next May 2017. I'm currently working in a pharmacy but by becoming a paramedic I can earn more money, and have a higher skill set, and more experince. Is this a good idea or shoot I start on the path that gets me to med school fastest ?

I have -
Military exp. USAF-R 4years & Currently serving
Ems exp. AEMT
Pharmacy exp. PHARM. TECH
Phlebotomy exp. CLA

Would I need more ems exp and are these good things to have on an app to med school ?

P.S I'm entering my Sophomore year this fall.

Thanks to all who respond,
Cody K.

I've had some of similar experiences to whah you've had (I'm an AEMT too). Assuming you are running with a service as an AEMT, getting a paramedic license doesn't hold much extra benefit for you. It takes a full year of class to get the degree and unless you plan on working with it for a significant period of time (at least a year, probably more) it doesn't add to your application. On another level, it's also a career, so I've heard some people say that doing it as a pre-med (meaning you knew that you wanted to go to medical school even though you were in the paramedic program, not that an experience paramedic decides to go to medical school) can actually cast doubt on your commitment to going the route of a physician practicing medicine.

I agree with everything that the poster said above. Focus on your grades/ MCAT, these mean much more than being a paramedic.
