I figured I would ask in this board b/c youve already been through it and i needed some advice from someone who has gone through it already. I'm applying and interviewing now and I have 6 interviews. I'm 29mcat and 3.65 gpa. Thats why i'm not certain of anything. I had an interview at syracuse and i really really liked that school alot b/c the people were so friendly and tuition was so reasonable. However, from what i hear downstate has better clinical experience b/c of kings county but i would have to live at home and my brother is annoying. nymc is a great school with great clinical but its very expensive and location wise perfect. Basically, I don't know what to do. If I could be sure of getting into any school I would go for it right now. However, do you think a letter of intent to syracuse would help at this point? i would wait for a waitlist if i get that but i would really love to be accepted outright. i mean, one schools clinical experience cant really leave you lacking can it? I saw so many hospitals in syracuse and it looked perfect. What do you all think? any advice you could give me at this juncture, what with you having been accepted and already being in medical school? Anything you thought about later on once accepted? thanks!

so should i
1 - send a letter of intent to syracuse now, before i have heard anything so i can maybe be moved up to 'accept' or 'high priority' (b/c they said we should let them know of absolutely anything within a week)
2 - wait until i hear back from syracuse and if i am waitlisted, send a letter of intent
3 - wait for downstate and see if that goes even better (though i dont know if i want to go there as much as syracuse yet)

basically, my goal is to get in somewhere. i definitely definitely! dont want to be rejected by 6 schools. syracuse looks the best so far but my downstate interview is in 3 days. what do you say?

my own advice is not to worry about money TOOmuch. If you are good with your finances and can live frugally your first couple years post-residency, you can pay off any amount of med school loans in no time. consider that you will be at a 6 figure salary in no time. It's not like you're going to be in an industry where you'll have problems finding employment.

(1) send a letter of interest now. you've nothing to lose.
(2) good luck at your other interviews.
(3) if you prefer downstate over upstate, then go there. why do you HAVE to live at home? I think living at home for med school (and even college) is a bad bad idea.

good luck.
