I interviewed at my state school and a Doc that works there, who is not on the interview committee, but i know him, said I have a 0 chance of getting in with my MCAT score. NOw i know he isn't on the committee, but he doesn know people on it. His reasoning was that the committee would vote no because i probably wouldn't do well on teh board exams...but then WHY GIVE ME AN INTERVIEW. what would you take away from this conversation?????

That your acceptance warrants giving this guy the finger and a pile of poo in his mailbox. The nerve of him...

Don't study the haters... let them study you. 😎

Stay cool Doc,

Obviously, you know that isn't true. I dunno what you mcat score is, but schools only interview applicants who are seriously considered for admission. Don't lose hope!!

Sounds like he has some issues to deal with himself... Forget the loser - be happy with your interview, dood!

The doc said that is what is usally done in the past with people who earned my score, but I do know of a few people who have been admitted with my score in the past. I asked specifically my interviewer about my score and he said don't stress too much. My interviewer stated its important..but not everything. I would hope my interviewer wouldn't give me lesss accurate infor than this doc? the guy I spoke iwth today really really depressed me. I DO not have the most stellar mcat score, but I know I have much more to offer.

Yeah go with your gut on that one... the application process is so horrendous to begin with, forget about the *****s who try to discourage you - they're not worth it. I had a similar situation a while ago with a well-meaning friend... made me feel like crap. But then I spoke to someone else who just reminded me of how far I had come, and I felt better. keep the faith dude - I think it boils down more to the personal chemistry between you and the interviewer and your other accomplishments.

I Know, your right. But I also know numerous interviewers are not on the admissions committee. Thus, even if you have a great interview, a poor MCAT can simply shadow all other accomplishments because you only really impressed that one perons -- the interviewer -- and they don't make the decisino, htye simply give their opinion.

He was probably trying to see your reaction, dont worry about it, if you got an interview somewhere, it means you have the minimum numbers to get in.

sorry about my typos...i was at working...so I was in a rush

I'm with Gleevac, alway assume an offensive statement or question in an interview is a test. As you pointed out, they wouldn't have interviewed you if you had a 0% chance.

If you dont' mind me asking: What was your MCAT? Was it high 20's? I think I read somewhere and I might be wrong, but if you got a score like 24 you had a 94% chance of passing med school and that's including the boards. If I'm wrong about the stats, please let me know. But I've read something like that. I'm assuming the 24 means 8's across.

you got an interview from the school. the school is interested in you. if you have no chance then they would have rejected you without hesitation.

i hope you did awesome on your interview.

good luck man.

My guess is that poop from a skinny person will be even lower in calorie and carb content b/c all the nutrition is absorbed...😀

this individual wasn't he doc I interviewed with, he was a professor of mine. My interviewer told me not to place everything on the MCAT, this PROF said i had no chance with my mcat score because the admissions board at the school would view my mcat as "no chance to do well on the boards"

There are many reasons why you could have been told that. the point of the matter is that you have an interview, so you must be at least somewhat qualified.

I have had an interviewer tell me that with my mcat scores I have no chance in an md school-- and gotten in that school (it was a do school) and turned them down for an md school. i had an admissions committee member tell me that i had no chance-- but then again what did he know... he is currently very encouraging although i am not going to his school.

the point is, do you think you have a chance??? do you think you will make a good doctor? if you do and a committed to your cause, you will find a way to get people look pass your mcat scores and get in a med school.

Last year I had a friend forward my resume to his brother who is a researcher in my local state medschool. Awesome, you might be thinking, a total shoe-in into his lab and the inner circle of this well-regarded institution.

No-way Jose! This guy went over my resume, which has a very decent sampling of clinical, public health and research experience (which I gathered on purpose for medical school preparation), and proceeded to criticise the 'lack of experience', the randomness of what I had done (??) and the haphazard way I was going about the medical school process. He was gracious enough to offer me plenty of suggestions on what I could do to improve my application and chances on medschool admissions. I politely declined his help. 😱 I had been looking for a lab job, not premed guidance.

My only hope was that this dude wasn't on the committee or someone I would have to deal with if I ever got accepted. Some people are just negative and really crabby, like this guy -
