For neurosurg, my impression is that you must be or have:

Immensely confident
Thrill seeking
A stupid amount of endurance
A very high energy level
Extremely detail oriented
Very emotionally stable, as in, not easily shaken by poor outcomes

If you're talking about my alma mater's neurosurg program, include "being able to survive on Monster drinks and e-cigs".

That's definitely true, but I'm wondering about traits specific to each specialty.

I mean yeah but I feel like several specialties would have very similar characteristics to each other, aka:

Work horses: Orthopedics, Plastics, Cardiology, General Surgery, OBGYN
  • Really gotta love it. Everyone says that but you wont be doing hell of a lot else so buckle up buckeroo.
  • Hard working, Dedicated, Mental fortitude
Early nights & tennis: Obviously, ENT, Opthalmology, Urology
  • Esoteric, Nuanced, Humble
More $, No Problems: Radiology, Dermatology
  • Early aggression coupled with later stage relaxation
One foot in, one foot out: Anesthesia, EM, Pulm/CC
  • Balanced, Fast-paced, Team player
Don't really have experience in anything else.
