A question for everyone, but especially those out in practice...What do you think of organizations such as The Academy of General Dentistry and others? Is it worthwhile becoming a member? I know a dentist in my home town who is a Master in the Academy of General Dentistry, so of course he was a huge fan. I know several others who are Fellows. I'm curious as to other's opinions on the subject. You can even include opinions on the ADA or any others with whom you are familiar. Many thanks in advance for your input.

Whatever other groups you join or don't join, join the ADA. They represent dentists in the political arena. They are a much more powerful organization because they represent the majority of dentists and will continue to be so only if future dentists join.

I was wondering about the AGD as well. I received a membership invitation in the mail yesterday, and am not sure whether it would be beneficial to join at this point. Opinions?

I'm a fan of the ADA, it's good to have a group that is actively lobbying Washington on behalf of Dentists. Also, from what I see in local news and publications, I like the work that the CDA (california dental assoc.) is doing. They are doing a good job of protecting our turf (i.e. not letting special interest groups carve up and sell off dentist's responsibilities all in the name of serving the underserved areas of California. There are better ways to reach those communities!).
