For starters, this is my first time on this forum. So, hello everyone.
Currently I'm going to be a junior this coming fall semester. I'm really worried at my prospect at medical school or even DO schools. So since last year I was homeless, due to family and financial problems. Even now, I would consider myself at risk for being homeless. I lack financial support from family and was deemed financially independent by my current situation by my university. My main concern is that I didn't do well this year overall. I only took 24 credits this year, non-full time one semester. I finished the year with a all B's. I believe I wasn't able to do as well in school, since I was working most of my free time. I haven't taken the MCAT yet, but I plan to take it this fall after I take my Biochemistry course. However, I do have over a years worth of experience working in a hospital. But, it was in the nutrition department, which required patient interaction. Also, I've worked in a lab spring semester and am doing research this semester. Furthermore, I plan to really grind away at volunteering at a hospital and shadowing next semester. I believe my science gpa is rougly around a 3.1-3.2. Do you think the medical boards will consider my circumstance?

Yours is the type of story which allows a 3.2 to stand a chance at certain schools, but you need to come back with an MCAT score to get any real help on prospects

Prove to me that you can handle the rigors of medical school by doing well in your later semesters of school and doing well on the MCAT and I couldn't care less about your 3.2 up to now. As far as most admissions committees are concerned, homelessness/threat of homelessness is a pretty real reason to do poorly in school.

By the same token, if you don't look like you can survive medical school/residency because you aren't a great student, it doesn't matter what your background is.

DO for sure, possibly MD if all your cards are played right. Try to do decently on the MCAT and try to increase your GPA to the best of your abilities. Your LORs hopefully will be from people who can talk about the issue. As others have said, this is one of those circumstances that they will consider accepting someone with a lower than average score.

I was homeless during college too as well as part of grad school so I know it is not impossible. I will be starting an MD program in fall.

I strongly advise investigating the FAP program which will help you with the application process (seriously you will save a ton of money) as well as give you a discounted MCAT fee. It only covers MD though, the DO schools have another assistance program but I have no experience with it.

Correct this statement to say:

"I'm really worried about my chances of being accepted into either MD or DO schools."

OP, as an undergrad I took plenty of science courses with poor health and an unstable home situation. I spent at least 2 semesters living out of a duffel bag. Sometimes I was successful, but in other instances, it was a total catastrophe. Looking back, I honestly wish I had not taken science under such circumstances. Listen to @Goro and get your life together before you resume taking a difficult course load, even if it's 5 years from now. Trust me, these situations work out better when you're patient.
