Hey everyone,

I have been lurking on this forum for quite sometime and thought I would open by thanking all of the helpful post about DAT related topics.

I have an O.K. DAT score, with one bad section, (atleaste compared to some on here) and a decent gpa. I was wondering the importance of applying early (june 1st) to help my competitiveness? Any advice or comments are greatly appreciated

Here are my stats:

cGPA 3.54
sGPA 3.4

PAT:19
QR: 16 🙁
RC:19
Bio:20
GC:20
OC:21
TS:20
AA:19

I have a rediculous amount of shadowing hours from multiple dentist. Research and pretty good community service.

I am taking a year off, which will be filled with dental assisting (and office work) and a medical mission trip. I am hoping someone can give me some insight on advantages to applying early in the cycle and if there is anything else I should be doing???

I am applying to mainly southeastern schools, i.e. I am a Georgia resident.

Thanks alot,
Chuck

Your score is not just OK its pretty good. Your QR is low, but we all know QR isn't important (at least not as much as the other sections). Your GPA is good too and you have some great extra-curricular activities so you'd be a good applicant I'd think. If you're worried about QR, talk to your schools of interest to make sure you are above the cutoff (most have it at 16 so you should be fine)

Applying earlier in the cycle will make all the "first come first served" issues work in your favor. A school might pretend all it wants that they're impartial to their first interviewee and the last one, but at some point it becomes more of a formality rather than a serious interest based inquiry. Apply for 2013 and do well!

you look like a pretty competitive applicant to me (worked in the bio counseling office in Undergrad)! as long as you have solid letters of req i would say you're pretty well rounded!

^^^^ I appreciate both of the above comments. I have read that the QR isn't the most important section, and I was sorely surprised when I saw it on the screen. However it still is part of the test and made me nervous.

Other people let me know what you think. I will have my application in on June the 1st...does anyone have any experience with applying that early (atleaste early June).

Thanks again

My DAT score's were almost identical to yours except my QR was actually a point lower. I've talked to multiple people who all have told me that admissions is not very concerned with QR (in fact it is by far the lowest average score for acceptance). I think your scores are fine and would just try to boost your gpa as much as you can. That combined with your shadowing/experience and you've got yourself a pretty good application.

Also, from what I've been told, there's no reason NOT to apply as early as possible. It really helps to get the earliest interview you can. Good luck!

Good deal menouski. I am guessing you are planning on upcoming 2012-13 cycle as well! I know a dentist that graduated from LSU. He is a classy guy and great DDS.

Has anyone applied with these stats early and had good results?
I appreciate the comments

LSU folk in da house!?

Your scores are above average and you have a good GPA. I wouldn't be to worried. If you want to go the extra mile just call some people at the schools you're interested in and ask their advice on if your QR will hurt you or not

Has anyone that has been accepted recently had success with similar stats and applying early?

Any comments or suggestions

If you have a pretty strong gpa I think you're fine. If you have a low gpa i'd suggest a retake. the QR isn't a big deal at all, but your gpa def is a major factor in deciding whether or a retake is necessary.

My GPA is listed above, and it seems that I'm right around all of my top schools stats. Did you apply in early June? If so, how would you say the process went?

Thanks,
Chuck
