Most my classes rely on ppt lectures so I was thinking of using an ipad to take notes in class. I heard Notability is useful in uploading the ppt slides and edit to take notes here. Do you guys recommend it? Also ipad mini vs ipad air for note taking and studying?

Just test it at home until you find an app that you like. I personally don't take notes in class, actually I don't even go to class, but our lectures are on videos so I go back through them and type up my own outline of the lecture.

Why are you giving people advice on how to study? Didn't you make a post about how you were about to flunk out? Or am I mistaken? Lol

our school require the purchase of a $2,500 laptop sold by the school, even if we already have our own personal laptop... somehow they believe the laptop they selling is superior quality for note taking and they forced the $2,500 price tag down our throat.. / Howard U.

It's really really excessive but I have a classmate who has an iPad Pro and makes notes on the slides. A surface lets you do that too. I'm old fashioned, I just print the slides and take my notes on that.

I listened first and foremost, and typed notes into the comments section underneath the powerpoint slides when needed. Printed out and rewrote my notes on the actual slides when studying for exam.

This is exactly what I did. iPad Air and Notability. Also, invest in a nice stylus!

What kind of stylus do you recommend?

I recommend avoiding the ones with the squishy rubber tip and investing in one with a nice mesh knit tip. Something like this. They are much more durable and don't squish down when you write on the screen, this allows for a more natural writing movement that doesn't cause as much hand/wrist fatigue over time.

ETA: This is the exact set I bought when I started pharmacy school, still have them!

I did bad on one test, but even then I still passed it. It was a bad week for me. We have had test #2 since then and I got a 94, class average 78. A big relief.

Funny.. Those were the same ones I bought to use with my iPad Air during school as well.

I currently have Notability. Have a folder for each subject. I would record every lecture. Then after class, i would write notes on paper, into my own words. About 90% of my class has notability.

Pen and paper. Works for me. Helps me focus on the lecture and write down only what's relevant. Most people in my class type up notes though, I rarely see anyone else take handwritten notes.

I just type it in the notes section on PowerPoint for each slide. I'm not about that printing 15+ pages a day life.

I loved notability as a student. Even now as a pharmacist, I use it when I attend live CEs. It's a good deal. I also had a swivel keyboard so I could type or switch up to just writing on the iPad

I used to download the powerpoints to my iPad Air and used Adobe reader to write on it or draw.

I typed all my notes in OpenOffice or Microsoft word. For medchem I copied and pasted the structures from Wikipedia. I believe that annotating PowerPoint slides doesn't enhance understanding/recall nearly as much as putting everything into your own words.

I also recorded my lectures and when I relistened to them I revised my notes.

We had a google doc and had about 5-7 of us contributing to note taking at the same time. If I zoned out, I had others to back me up.

One designated person would process the lecture and notes into a one page study sheet.

Anything that beats the retention curve works for me (bring ppt notes to class, write what was said in class, re-write notes after class). The more simple it is, the better (in my opinion).

can you record the professors voice on notability during lecture?

I am an old school 🙂 in a major subject, I print out Lecture and just write notes on it, others just use laptop. some of my classmate do the same way. I know some of them use laptop and some take no note at all.
