I voluntarily resigned from a program and the letter there stated 'for personal reasons'.

So can I say "I voluntarily resigned for personal reasons"

Is that okay? What more do I need to say? Do PD's require any more than that?

Thanks!

That doesn't really give much information to go on. Will it be clearer from anything else in your application?

From my point of view (a former occasional recruiter to professional training positions, scanning applications and conducting board interviews, but not relating to doctors) I'm looking for positives (why should we take this person on - do they have the ability, application and personality to make a good trainee and then a good professional?) and a lack of negatives (are there unexplained gaps in the CV, will they cause us any problems, is there any reason why they won't succeed at the opportunity they are being given?)

Previous acceptance to a program could be a positive - it shows you've got the qualifications needed to be accepted, and that some other recruiter thought you met the standard. If resignation from that program is itself a neutral, then a neutral statement about it would be OK. If it's a potential negative, it needs to be neutralised if possible, and a neutral statement such as you suggest may not of itself be sufficient to do that.

Good luck.

You basically want to include enough information so that you won't get screened out of any interviews due to vagueness (i.e. PD won't want to give you a chance), but at the same time don't want to include so much dirt that you'll put up a red flag and put yourself out of contention.
