By the way, in the poll, I meant "herpes sores" as oral herpes.

Really, does this count as asking for medical advice? Some Dental student mod closed my thread over there telling me not to ask for medical advice on this forum. I think it's because some other dental student thought he was all freaking cool or something and gave me this lecture on what *my* sore might be? This doesn't have anything to do with me or advice or anything like that. It's to settle an argument over what the term really means. I made it clear that I just wanted to know peoples' personal thoughts over what the term really means. I think it specifically means sores caused by herpes.

Cold sore most likely herpes. Just not THAT herpes.

I'm not 100% if sores can result as a result of localized topical bacterial infection, but usually cold sores are caused by the herpes virus. It doesn't mean they have genital herpes, but it isn't good news either! 😉

actually herpes of the mouth (cold sores) can be either HSV-1 or 2 obviously the common form is 1. However in the rare instance that it is HSV 2 you usually get less outbreaks because its adapted to the gential areanot the mouth and the outbreaks are much more severe. And actually you can get gentil herpes if someone with a cold sore gives you oral. Now Given it may not happen right away but it could if they had HSV-2. some people have Genital herpes that is HSV-1 which is not nearly as bad as HSV-2 in that region but still bad. Is a cold sore herpes? yes it is they are also called fever blisters, and Cancer sores can be a form of it as well.

I thought both oral and genital can be HSV-1 HSV-2. It's just one is more common in oral and one is more common in genital or something.
