I could use some advice on this from anyone who knows. When I got my decision from Case (about 3 wks after my interview), it said my application has been placed on hold, and will be open for continuing review throughout the year. They review applications throughout the year and all applicants will receive a final decision by April 15.

Is this basically a wait list, or do I still have a decent chance at getting in? Did anyone else get this or know anyone who has in the past? I'd really appreciate any info. Thanks.

It means you are on the waitlist.

Does anyone know for sure what this means? I asked the admissions office and they were unclear, and I don't think it works the same as a waitlist.

people are either admitted or placed on hold right after their interview. you are basically on a pre-waitlist. they decide in april if people on hold will be admitted or if they will be placed on the official waitlist. if you really want to go there, i think it would be wise to show continued interest in the school. i didn't want to go there, so i never wrote a letter of continued interest and they didn't put me on the waitlist come april but rather dealt me the rejection letter.

jwin is essentially right. When they review your file after interview, they take one of three actions, Admit, reject or put on hold. Being put on hold means that your file will again be reviewed next time the Adcom sits down to review files again - and presumably each time they meet from thence forth until you are accpeted, rejected or put on the waitlist.

I think the common wisdom is that being put on hold is a ticket to the waitlist. But who knows for sure. You might get in at some point. The point is, you have not been rejected.

Case doesn't actually reject anyone right after the interview. They either accept you or put you on hold. Being on hold is not the same as being on the waitlist. They'll continue to review your application through april. Come april, if you haven't been accepted, you'll either be rejected or put on the official waitlist. Nobody is removed from the waitlist until the summer.

this info is straight from the admissions office. After i was put on hold, i called to find out what it meant. Hope that helps!

they very explicitly say that they reject candidates post-interview without putting them on hold.

sure does.

Thought I would bump this since I called Case today and was told I have been put in the "hold" pile. Does anyone know if people put on hold ever get offers of acceptance prior to being transferred to the waitlist in April? If not, this process just got a hell of a lot longer. Any insight from Case students, or anyone who has had to navigate this, would be deeply appreciated. Good luck to everyone else still waiting.
