What percentage of students get interviews? If you get one does that mean you are basically 50% there because the only interview a selected bunch.... or .... do does it mean basically nothing because dental schools interview almost everyone and only screen for the really low scores (ie AA 16)... and therefore shouldn't get your hopes up? 😕

Is it too early to get my hopes up?

they interview a select group by looking at gpa and your dat. after that they see how you are in person. I think that if you get an interview invite early on in the game, you have a better chance to get in but if you get an interview late, its much harder to get in since their will be more competition. I would say, just because you got an interview invite dosn't mean your in, but you have a better chance. The interview would be your final step and that will dictate if you get in or not. So weigh the interview the heaviest assuming you got an interview. I think, not sure, that the chances of getting in after interview is 1/4 or maybe a little more depending on the school. good luck, practice for you interview

Like somebody said before, I think if you have good stats like 3.8/23+, you should in as long as you act like a normal citizen at the interview. However, if your stats are something like 3.5/18~9, you should be outstanding at the interview in order to win the competition against people with similar stats.
Somebody mentioned that there is a ranking system in which everything, GPA+DAT+EC+Interview, combines together at the end for final decision.

I think its higher than 1/4. I know for NYU last year, they interviewed 600+ and gave out over 400+ acceptances, though only 200 something chose to attend. I think similar situation happens to UoP as well, where they interview around 300ish and 140 chose to attend. But I am sure more acceptances were given out than those chose to attend.

That's my understanding as well. Based on what I have heard, interviewees with lower stats tend to need a stellar interview whereas folks with higher stats just need to not mess up. I think there is an earlier thread for UNLV where someone posted an equation for their ranking system, an acceptance requiring 75/100 points.

The amount of people interviewed that are accepted varies by school and by time of interview. The general average is 1 in 2.5 to 1 in 3 people interviewed get accepted to a school. THis varies by school depending on how many people per slot the school interviews and how popular the school is as a #1 choice for applicants.

Also, another major factor is timing. If you get an early interview at most schools, your chances of getting accepted are slightly or greatly higher than if you get a later interview which can be largely for waitlist spots.

You ar emore than welcome to get your hopes up. You've gone from a 35% acceptance rate to about a 40%+ acceptance rate. Just don't be too surprised if you get 5 interviews and 5 waitlists....it isn't completely unheard of.

Where are you interviewing?

I always heard that if you got an interview offer you are 80% accepted. Maybe that's a slight exaggeration but I'm sure it's well above 50%.

Someone from UMDNJ put it best. The point of an interview is 'to make sure [the school] isn't accepting any Jack the Rippers'.

its definitely not 80%. you have to take into considerations of instate and out of state. for ASDOH for example they interview a total of 360 applicants for its 54 seats last year. however 70 of them were instate and 290 were from out of state. 21 of the 70 instate were accepted while only 33 of the 290 out of state applicants were accepted. 80% is really too high. mabye that would be the case for an instate mississippi student applying to mississippi, but def not for the majority of us.

total applicants 54/2,915 = 1.9%
instate accepted/interviewed 21/70 = 30%
out of state accepted/interviewed 33/290 = 11.4%

THEN if you really wanna get down to the nitty gritty you can start separating into females and males accepted students. and then go into races....a native american indian has a higher % of getting in than an asian does, etc. regardless....it IS NOT EVEN CLOSE TO 80%!!!! btw, this information was taken from the ADA website pdf on 2006 admissions.

Thanks for highlighting the sobering out of state acceptance/interview statistics. I just received an interview from ASDOH and was hoping to remain pleasantly oblivious to the statistical improbability of being accepted, at least for the evening.

Then again, I imagine that they offered more then 33 spots to out of state applicants, I seems highly unlikely that every individual accepted their seat.

Hm... Well I am 3.5gpa/17DAT, I thought when I applied that I would be lucky just to get an inteview. I have interviews so far at Marquette, Midwestern (are they interviewing everyone or is it just me?) and Buffalo. So.. Go figure. How hard is it going to be, and what do i have to do at these interviews to seal the deal? Im still very nervous. :scared:
