Hmmm, at my school we didn't have a lab but a "recitation." It was an extra hour on top of the regular lecture where we'd just take quizzes or review for exams. Not sure if that's the same for you.
In all seriousness, it’s probbaly a recitation/discussion section where a TA does problems with you and gives you quizzes, and/or shows you how to use technology to do calculus.
We didn’t have a full class section for calc lab but we did sometimes have math lab content. For it we used mathcad or other software to solve the problems.
Typically a recitation. At my institution, recitation was once a week. And there was a quiz on certain weeks. Typically it's just to reinforce ideas, and acquire points for the total sum points in the class.
It really depends what school you go to. My 4 credit hour calculus class was three days a week. Two 90 minutes days of lecture, and one three hour day of lab. My teacher typically gave out additional practice problems for us to complete and made himself available for questions. Sometimes he’d use that day for additional lecture if needed and as exam days.
