What does "currently under review" mean?

Hi. So I feel like this is a daft question outside of medical school admissions, but what does "currently under review" mean? Does this mean that my application is sitting in a committee meeting somewhere or does it merely mean that I'm complete and that sometime in the next five months a committee will look my way?

I am "still under review" at Northwestern...so I'm assuming that means they'll get to me eventually. I think it depends on the school and other people's experiences with the status checks.

couldnt your status just stay under review until you forget about it?
I m under review in 12/20 places I applied and I applied at the end of july so its kinda odd that im still "under" review. I think it just means that "they reviewed your file, but it wasnt impressive enough to think anything of it".

Thanks. I'm way too impatient for this process. Waiting for MCAT scores last week was torture and now that I have those I want notice on applications...😳 Anyone else have a sense, especially with those PA/NY schools and August MCATers?
