I'm finding iit difficult to sift out information on the internet about medical schools, particularly since most of their websites give out mainly superficial information about their school. anyways, what has anyone know about uc davis, particularly it's research?

What do you want to know? I'm not on here much anymore, but I'd be happy to answer any questions I can. As for research, I'm probably not the best person to ask since I am not on that path. But we have several MD/PhD students in the first-year class. Also, there was a meeting fairly recently about getting involed with research and I know some people who are planning to do it. The new college system is also designed to help you get to know faculty more easily, and the director of our college met with each of us and research was one of the things we discussed. There is also a brand new genomics research building on campus, and they are hoping to get money to start a stem cell institute out of the recently passed ballot proposition. Research is definitely an option at Davis. It is definitely not just a primary care school.

What about their research? I do research at the UCD med center. They have a lot of research facilities here and gets quite a bit of funding. Any particulars you would like to know?

UCD is tops in ortho. I work a floor below one of many ortho microsurgery research labs. I know a MD/PhD working up there and he praises the program like no other. The ACC also has a lot of clinical and trial studies. That's why Ellison, Oracle CEO, donated so much money to the program because his elbow was treated succesfully at UCDMC, and he wanted to express his gratitude.

thanks much. i'll be at davis tomorrow. i wish they'd tell me what my interview schedule is like so i can make the appropriate plans to go from sac to davis.

don't forget... there is a nearby indian reservation at which to gamble your tuition away. and, the smell of cattle permeates the undergraduate campus.

They usually leave at least an hour between interviews. The student interview will be at noon for everyone. It varies whether or not you'll get a morning interview and where. Good luck.

you can get a ride with someone with a car, mostlikely. or, you can take the shuttle from sac-town to davis.

I do research for the dept. of anesthesiology. I think it's great! The pain fellowship is one of the most competitive in the country.. they have so many people applying it's crazy and all applicants are outstanding. Anyway, the GCRC (General Clinical Research Center) just opened up and has a 1 million dollar funding from NIH so they are looking to get more and more clinical and basic science research in that building. Davis has affiliations with so many hospitals it's kinda crazy: For examp.. studies reach out to not only the med center, but the VA, Mercy, Sutter and Kaiser . It's quite good and the physicians are very committed to patient care, education, and research.

What department do you work in? Are you at the main hospital? I'm way over in the ACC

It's a really underrated school. Historic city, great research, great medical center. I was impressed.

I'm in internal medicine at Research I, separated by a parking lot from the ACC. I go over to the ACC for lunch sometimes in the cafetaria. Can't beat their 1.50 hot dog and 1.25 Nachos. No wonder i'm getting fat...

Nah, homie - Davis is located just outside of Sacramento, in the wonderful central valley of California, but is considered to be in Northern California. Those lucky Davis students are a short hour-drive away from Modesto, CA, the hometown of Scott Peterson and Gary Condit; Modesto also boasts the highest car theft rate in the nation, as well as being one of the largest methamphetamine producers in the nation. I 😍 Modesto!

Modesto isn't that bad. Just don't go there at night or park your car on the streets 🙄
