i have a 3.7 and i just finished my second year of school. i have already began extensive undergraduate research at school (400 hours this summer). i am a t.a. for many labs, and i have plenty of dental experience thus far. i am a virginia resident and i'm going to apply to vcu, unc, uk, and louisville. i know chances are slim for the out of state schools, but what do you guys think about vcu? do i have a shot with these scores? i'm going to retake it, but i was just curious. thanks for the input.

yeaur scores need improvement i think. i know someone who had a 3.7 science gpa and had 18 in everything on DAT and the dental schools say that they won't accept her unless she gets a 19 or above

I think you have a decent shot at your state school. Again, remember a lot of the posts here are probably not representative of the norm. Your GPA is well above average so you can afford more "average" DAT scores.

How long did you study for?

well, i've been really busy lately. im working two jobs and just finished up 18 credits along with all the other stuff that pre-dents do. i knew gen chem was weakness of mine but i made the common mistake of studying more of what i already knew rather than what i didn't. also, i figured since i had organic i didn't need to study it much either. i ran out of time on the pat because i didnt know how to pace myself. i got a 20 on an untimed pretest and a 19 on kaplan's cd. i skimmed over the kaplan book sciences and took a couple of pretests about two weeks in advance. i realize now that it really takes a good solid knowledge of everything topic the dat covers, so i'm going to get achiever and topscore and take it again in january. i should be much more prepared next go around.

are you applying to get in next fall or are you waiting to get in for 2008? you said you had two years of school done so i was wondering if you were going to graduate soon.

not sure yet. i was thinkin about applying without a degree, but most schools advise against that. does anyone think i have a shot applying without a degree?

In the 2005-2006 ADA Guide to Dental Schools, VCU's average AA score was 18, and pat average was 17. So, I would think your scores are fine for them.

this topic has come up a couple times, so make a search.. I might be applying without a degree also if I can't finish everything by summer. 🙄
