What does it mean to "conjugate" a peptide to a toxin? In a passage that I came across in TBR, it made antibody to hCG by conjugating synthetic hCG peptide to diphtheria toxin to form a hapten-protein carrier complex, which is then injected into human.

It means to bind them together to form said complex.
