Hi Everyone,

I was wondering: exactly what does it mean to withdraw from a school?

Is it asking for your application to be closed when:
a] You're waiting for an interview invite?
b] You want to cancel the interview?

Also, is there some rule about being required to withdraw from all schools that you know for sure you're not interested in? Also, how does one usually withdraw from a school?

Actually, can someone please just explain to me this whole withdrawing thing?

Thanks!

You can withdraw your application from consideration at any stage of the process, so all scenarios you suggest could be a withdrawal. At some date in May, you are required to only hold one acceptance and need to withdraw/turn down any others (although you may stay on waitlists hoping for another acceptance).

When you withdraw, your file is taken out of consideration, no matter what point in the app process you are (pre-secondary, pre-interview, post-interview, post-acceptance, etc.)

Like Law said, I think you have to withdraw from all schools you have been accepted from except the one you plan on attending on May 15. You do not need to withdraw from waitlists. I don't think you have to withdraw from schools that haven't interviewed you yet (figuring that if you haven't interviewed by May 15, it probably isn't going to happen?) but don't quote me on that one....

Also, how does one usually withdraw from a school?

I have usually done an email withdrawal. I do this because most schools seem to want your withdrawal in writing. One school didn't have an email addy that I could find, so I called them & they wanted me to send a signed letter via snail mail to withdraw. Usually, I've gotten some snail mail 1 page letter confirming withdrawal of your app.

Hope this all clears things up!

do you have to withdraw from schools you didnt send a secondary too but sent a primary??

it means that you are giving up on becoming a doctor.

Dear School XYZ,

There is absolutely no chance of me attending your medical school. I got in ABC School of Medicine and I ain't even worried about you guys anymore. Peace Out!

P.S. I hope this doesn't reflect negatively on my residency application in a few years.
