Shortly after my interview at a program in Chicago, I received a letter from the program director. It basically thanked me for visiting and urged me to consider my options carefully when it comes to creating a rank list. I'm not sure what this means but it doesn't sound that great to me. I wanted to rank this program high, maybe even number 1, but I don't know any more. Anyone else had this experience? Thank you.

I too received letters thanking me and asking me to put a lot of "thought into my rank list." It did not change my rank list one way or another. I would do exactly what the program director advised: consider your options carefully. Try not to read too much into this stuff. If you want to rank them #1, rank them #1. If you don't, don't. Remember, the match works in your favor, not theirs.

i too got this letter and felt it could be one of three things

1. a subtle hint that they liked me and understood that i had many options, and hopefully would make an educated decision towards them

2. a subtle hint that they really didnt like me and since they know i would have other residency options, wanted to give me a courtesy heads up that they would rank me low and hence not waste a "spot" on them

3. that it was a just a courtesy letter and nothing more... seems like if many people got it from this program, maybe #3 is the most applicable?

perhaps this is why programs arent allowed to contact you for anything (unless you have a question) so that you dont start down this path of doubt and angst...

why isnt it january 17th yet?!

Seems like they send it to a lot of people, probably doesn't mean much. Perhaps they think it may make some applicants rank them a bit higher on the list.

It definitely doesn't sound like they're hinting at you to not rank them!
