I have been writing few mock exams and usually scored 17-18 range for every section.

For those of you who scored over 20+ on all sections on the real DAT, what does it take to score 20 on all DAT section? Is it just TIME and LUCK?

Let me know what you guys think. THANKS!

Hey Smooth Operater,

I don't think getting 20s accross the board is a matter of luck. It may be a matter of time, especially for the PAT, RC, and QR.
Don't worry too much about your Topscores' scores. I did get average scores on Topscore (16-19) on sciences and got above 20s on all science sections.
Only your hard work can pay off.
So keep up with the work and you should be fine,

Good luck.

I took the Kaplan course, but was taking 20 units at the time and did not get much out of it. My Kaplan Diagnostic scores were pretty low in my opinion (18 AA & 18 PAT), so when school got out I studied 10-12 hours a day for 2 months. I used every resource Kaplan had available (Subject Tests, Full-Length Exams, Review notes, etc.). I bought 3 Examkracker books (1001 questions in Biology, G. Chem and O. Chem). I also bought as many computerized practice tests as I could: Top Score Pro, KSF Review and Ace the Dat. I didn't hear about it in time, but there is also DAT Achiever. Anyways, between studying the review notes and taking test after test my scores began to increase dramatically.

I spent 2 weeks on Biology, 2 weeks on G. Chem, 1 week on O. Chem, 1 week on Q. Reas and took at least 2 full-length computerized tests per week. As I went along in my studies I realized that I didn't need to dedicate extra time for R. Comp or PAT because the full-length exams were helping me a ton in those areas!!

Biology is simply the memorization of terms, so use whatever method it takes to get them in your head. In fact, a lot of the material is like that. There are conceptual problems on some of the other sections, but they will come with practice. Be sure to review the answers to the tests after you take them, this helped me more than anything. Read why you got certain problems wrong and also read why you got the others right. DON'T MISS THE SAME TYPES OF PROBLEMS MORE THAN ONCE!! The last 2 weeks I studied just those items that gave me trouble on the practice tests and began to taper off my studies. In the end I could not have been happier with my performance. I hope this helps and good luck!!

those are nice scores Chris.

And yes, like Chris said, going over the answers are extremely important. The answer explanations for the kaplan subject tests are especially good.

I spent 20 days (6hrs/day) with the kaplan review book, kaplan subject tests & topscore--> DAT: 26AA/29TS/23PAT

Luck = well preparation + opportunity.

never take the real dat ill-prepared.

nice scores chris and gatszu.

Looks like I'm the third member of the 26 club (26AA/25TS/24PAT)

Here is some more advice for doing well on the DAT. For me the DAT is not just a test of knowledge but also attrition and mental stamina.

If you study enough and have a fairly strong memory you'll eventually get to a level of knowledge that chris, gatszu and myself had. However most people make TONS of mistakes on the test.

For example on practice tests I would get 85/100 on the science questions. When I went back over them I'd realize that about 7-10 missed questions were silly mistakes including some really absurd stuff like not reading the question properly.

So I didn't sit the actual test until I felt mentally disciplined and mentally fresh enough to reach my potential.

Good luck to all of you and don't rush into sitting the test, make sure you're mentally ready.

Keep in mind that the difference between a 26 and a 22 might only be 2 or 3 questions. Little mistakes could really change your score.

u ppl have some amazing scores, 26 AA, 24 PAT wow

I especially love this reference. 😀 lol.

MEMORIZE KAPLAN!!!!!!!!!!!! Do all of the subject tests, flashcards, lectures, & book in <6weeks and you should be scoring 20+. The QR subject tests suck in my opinion & would suggest doing practice tests for this section.

Grab yourself Kaplan's big DAT book, or better yet, enroll in the course because their practice exams and subject tests will get you scores above 20.

I took the course and then spent the next 2 months studying on my own using their online resources, books and flashcards. I also used Top Score full length tests starting 3 weeks before my DAT.

On all the Kaplan and Top Score full lengths, I was getting scores of 17-20, mostly 18-19. On the real DAT I scored from 20-29 so expect your scores to go up a bit on the real thing.

Beware, however, of the PAT! I was averaging 19-20 on Kaplan and Top Score tests... and I ended up with only an 18 on the real thing. It was my only score below 20 and honestly, it SEEMED easier than Kaplan or Top Score so I'm not really sure where I went wrong.

Anyway, Kaplan is the way to go for excellent scores in the sciences, QR and RC.

:luck:

Gatszu, I can't believe you studied for less than a month and get those scores. I spent almost two months studying and didn't even get through the subject tests from Kaplan. I wish I had your scores!

UCLA for sure. I'll probably go to the white coat ceremony on the 16th. I might see you there!
