Hey everyone,

for someone anxiously waiting for her first interview only to get a bunch of holds, what does this mean? Do people who generally don't get interviews get automatic holds, or there is some value to the hold and that there is still a chance. I just want to hear what other people think about this so that I can be realistic when thinking about my prospects at these schools.

Thanks and good luck everyone!

ps.I am a Canadian. How are all the Canadians holding up through this process? So far the American schools do not seem to pleased with me🙁

It depends on the school. But for most, I think it means that they're not willing to give you an interview invite yet, and they want to wait until they get a better sense of the final applicant pool as a whole before making a final decision. It's not the most encouraging sign, though.

"Hold" means that you aren't promising enough to be interviewed but you aren't unpromising enough to be rejected outright. Unfortunately it is not a great sign. Generally what it means is that you might get asked to interview later in the season once they size up the other applicants, but even then you will probably be interviewing for a waitlist spot.

That said, if you do get asked to interview obviously you should go, even if it is in April, because people get taken off the waitlists all the time.

Good luck!
