I just received an email from UK saying that my application is on HOLD. I am out of state student so it was a long shot anyway. They said they liked my application but they want to compare it to the rest of the applicants before they can offer me an interview. but does on hold mean that they are just rejecting me nicely? or what does it mean?

I have gotten the impression that when an application is on hold it is not being processed because they need more information before they can process it. Did they give any reason for placing your application on hold? I just got put on hold at Maryland because I needed to provide them with some extra information about my application, specifically, I had to let them know if I was going to be taking biochemistry during this year before matriculation. Either way, I would call them and see if you can provide them with anything to get your application off hold.

they said mine was complete they said they were putting me on hold for comparison

hey i got it too...it doesn't mean that we're rejected...they just want to wait and see what other out-of-state applicants look like before they choose to interview us since they only have 15 out of state spots

On hold could probably mean that the school is waiting on something - such as your DAT results.

On the other hand, having your application on "hold" could probably be a nice way of deferring your application, since you don't make the cut as an out-of-state applicant.

That's what happened to me with cornfield dental school called Iowa. They said that my GPA was not a 3.9, and that's the average overall GPA for their out-of-state applicants. I think Univ of Iowa must be an easy school since a lot of the students they accept have high GPAs, and they didn't even bother to consider the ranking and reputation of my college when looked at my below 3.9 overall GPA.

But don't let that "hold" on your application let you down. Keep your head up high and hope for other schools to invite you for an interview.

Hey would you guys mind listing your stats? Lets see if we can get a consensus on what range of GpA and scores they are "holding".

I don't know if this is true or not but the HOLD status might be because they are waiting to see what spots they fill up with in-state applicants. This way they would know how many out-of-state spots they have available. Then they would adjust the number of out-of-staters they bring in for interviews. It seems like a reasonable thought since we all have pretty solid stats.

I'm on hold as well, and I'm out of state.

GPA: 3.6
sGPA: 3.5
DAT: 22/22/20

i'm on hole at kentucky. they said in the e-mail that "on HOLD" meant that they were going to compare me to other out of state applicants. my stats are in my sig

I guess the majority of us who are on hold seem to have pretty solid stats. Maybe they are doing their instaters first and then doing all of the out of staters at the very end once they get more applications in. ARGG!
