Means your on call one night, off three, on one, off three........

Uhm, I think 1:3 refers to one night on call in three nights. In other words, on for one and off for two.

On one, off three is 1:4.

It's funny that "1:3 call" is attending-speak, while us residents refer to that schedule of call as "Q3."

That seems confusing to me. Maybe that's why advertisers use that terminology...to make the big number look bigger (for suckers like me). My bad. Yeah, I'm gonna stick with the whole "Qx" thing.

If you see "1:3," you read that out loud as "one in three."

Kind of odd to write it as 1:3 since this notation is often used to denote odds of 1 to 3 (or 1 in 4). Q3 or 1/3 is more clear.
