it's not unique to SDN - it means someone who lurks the boards then pops up with inflammatory, ridiculous, or other various stupid remarks from time to time. they often have no idea what the hell they're talking about and offer nothing of importance.

On message boards/lists, a troll is a poster who writes controversial, inflammatory, or attention-grubbing posts. Basically, a troll is someone who attracts flames and likes to disrupt board activities.
