To UCSF current students and anyone who might know the answer;

Can anyone tell me what are some strengths and weaknesses of ucsf's curriculum? I keep hearing so many different things. Some say that there is not enough clinical emphasis because there is so much emphasis on research and so many other things that makes me doubt going to ucsf. UCSF has been one of my top choices, so please be honest...😕

From what I read on SDN...

Research is one of the best.
Pass/Fail is cool.
It's clinical is very good, not amazing.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

its one of the cheaper schools in terms of tuition. Housing brings up the overall cost of attendance but yes the school is focused on research but that is not to say the patient pool or clinical skills there are bad. HOwever with budget cuts and everything going downhill with the University of California system, you will probably encounter some new headaches along the way...

Learn to be critical of what others say. They may be an idiot and not know what they're talking about.

Academic curricula are rarely focused on research. When someone says that a school is research-oriented, they mostly mean that the faculty do research. What the faculty do on their own time is not important to you, because you'll be studying basic sciences. There are some scattered students here and there that decide to become involved in research, but by far the faculty do the research. You will earn basic sciences in dental school, not perform research. This applies to essentially every dental school in the US.
