This is my second time on this forum and I am addicted now 😉. I wanted to know since I am in my 5th semester now at Uconn what do I need to do outside my academic schedule to get into dental school? Please give me some advice. thanks

What do you like to do?
Athletics, clubs (especially holding leadership positions), shadowing dentist, community service are a few ideas.

Do anything that interests you. Although extracurricular activities aren't "required", dental schools like to see applicants that have a life outside of the classroom. Shadowing a dentist is a MUST though. Everything else is really up to you.

Community service is a biggie. I have 2+ years of research, a high-end paper being published, decent grades, good DAT scores and all of the schools ask about my community service.

Do habitat for humanity, volunteer at a homelss shelter, whatever you like, just do something! Schools like to see service-oriented individuals.

Don't do something so you'd have something to put on your resume. You'll hate it while you do it.

As cliche as it sounds, DO SOMETHING YOU LIKE. Whatever it is, judging its value is up to admissions committee.

I know that is true Oppenheimermann, I have research for 2 semesters and probably one more and shadowing and i am in predental society and another club, but still I feel I need to do more. I see my colleges here are doing so much more..thats all.

i was wondering if that leadership position is a big factor, I had a friend who just got into Harvard Med, into the md/phd program. He used to tutor, and do research all day everyday plus hard classes plus other stuff. I am kind of concerned.
